As much as UFC president Dana White and the UFC have done to help build the credibility of MMA around the world, White is also one of major the obstacles keeping the sport from being legalized in New York, according to Frank Shamrock.

"The face of our sport is Dana White and out here in conservative New York, the way people think, bald-headed, tattoo'd, swearing people are just not a good representative of our brand and unfortunately people think that Dana White speaks for MMA, and they're confused," Shamrock said Monday on The MMA Hour. "They don't know he speaks for the UFC. They think he speaks for the entire sport and [they think] the entire sport is made up of Dana Whites.

"I know what the art is and I'm here to represent it," Shamrock said. "I think that's all we need. We need a different face."

No need to read anything but the last sentence. This sums it up...Frank thinks he's the one that should be getting all of the attention.

So now all of a sudden being bald headed gives people a negative perception?

We don't need the face of MMA to have braces.

Dana can be pretty abrasive, I think Fank is much more diplomatic so I can see his point, as for him being the face of MMA my vote is for El Guapo!

Kind of doubt the resistance to MMA has anything to do with Dana White. Politicians usually aren't ready to jump out of their seats to legalize something that was previously illegal because it's a pretty big commitment and they are going to approach anything illegal with the notion that there must be something inherently wrong with it, even if they don't understand what it is.

Frank obviously doesn't pay attention to NY sports. He should learn a bit about the Yankees or Jets to see that those kinds of guys are exactly who NYers take to. They won't legalize it because they're too dumb. End of story.

This has everything to do with the fact that boxing lobbyists are very powerful in New York and nothing to do with Dana White. These guys are some of the richest figures in the state, they donate a lot to politicians campaigns, and MMA is a threat to their industry.
