LONDON – WEC featherweight champion Jose Aldo may agree with observers who think he's running out of credible threats.
During a Q&A session with UFC Fight Club members at the Earls Court Exhibition Centre in London, UFC president Dana White said Aldo has expressed interest in moving up to the lightweight division.
"From what I'm hearing, Aldo's interested in testing himself," White said.
The UFC president did not present a timeline for a possible move other than to say it could happen "very soon."
Aldo, a member of powerhouse MMA team Blackhouse, decimated the most recent challenger to his WEC crown when he took out former UFC lightweight and "The Ultimate Fighter 5" runner-up Manny Gamburyan by second-round TKO at WEC 51. It was his eighth consecutive victory in the promotion.

PLEASE make Aldo .vs. Penn happen. Penn just needs a really good ass kicking, and I think he should be knocked out at least once before he retires.

Aldo vs. Penn seems less exciting after Edgar dominated Penn handing him his second loss in a row. Frankly, any fight with Penn doesn't excite me.

Aldo shouldn't get ahead of himself. Penn would school him.

Idk, he's pretty scary and it seems like Penn forgot what kicking is whatsoever so he could be unable to stand up at all come round 3. I'm the biggest skeptic ever of Aldo's p4p ranking even being top 5. I think however that he would earn if given the chance to fight top skilled and ranked oponents. He could take that LW strap for sure.
Ironically I think Maynard, Florian, or Sherk will be best matchups to hand him a loss.

I don't know about that. That style match up strikes me as a bad one for Penn. He was having a lot of trouble Edgar's speed, and has been known to just eat leg kicks.
I think Aldo could easily sneak some leg kicks in, and if Penn eats 4-5 of them full on he won't be able to stand.
I think the tougher match up for him is going to be a giant 155 wrestler like Maynard or Sherk.
I wouldn't mind seeing Aldo/Dunham either... but I think there will be a time down the road a couple years where that fight is gonna be a lot more important.. I could totally see that as a title fight at UFC 145-55 or something like that.

Never would. Penn has stated before that he would turn down fights against Nova Uniao fighters, probably out of respect for Andre Pederneiras, who awarded Penn his black belt (and coincidentally founded Nova Uniao and coaches Jose Aldo).

Remember when everyone wanted Urijah Faber to move up to 155? Yeah... I feel most of the upper-echelon lightweights would win fairly easily, just by virtue of being gigantic.

Mike Brown is a fairly large Featherweight. From what I remember, they were saying he walks around at about 170. I think with his speed and his leg kicks...God those leg kicks....he'll be able to compete with the top level of Lightweights.

That's why he dropped to featherweight in the first place. He couldn't handle the upper tier at lightweight most of the time.
