If your open minded The Man from Earth is a great film.

I agree about Kiss Kiss Bang Bang but I thought Layer Cake was a bit weak (for Guy Ritchie)

"Layer Cake" wasn't Ritchie. You might be thinking of "RocknRolla."

Yep. Layer Cake was Matthew Vaughn. Also known for Stardust and Kick-ass as well as the upcoming restart of the X-Men.

Speaking of underrated gangster movies, I thought "Lucky Number Slevin" was surprisingly good. I mainly rented it because I think Lucy Liu is hot. ("Rise", on the other hand, was terrible.)

Lucky Number Slevin was sweet. I never found her that attractive until I saw it. Now she's in my top 5-10.

I'm not sure if this counts as underrated, but for some reason Lucky Number Slevin made me think of Smokin' Aces. I think it could probably go either way, and I've found that most people love it or hate it.

Come on folks, virtually all the movies in this thread are big, blockbusters. Let's get more indie flicks!

City of God? I liked that one a lot. Not 100% certain that it can be technically called an indie flick but I know it was from another country, lol

To be honest about 70-80% of the movies I watch are documentaries so I don't even know if I could name very many indie movies. I also tend to view movies in different contexts than most people. I.E. if they're big and popular that doesn't necessarily mean they suck.

Here's another movie I love that nobody ever really talks about- Death to Smoochie. Also starring Edward Norton- I really liked The Painted Veil.

Oh, just thought of another possibly independent film that I really liked- "To Walk with Lions"

City of God rocks. As far as docs are concerned, have you seen Bigger, Stronger, Faster?

Loved it. Definitely one of the best docs I've seen recently. Everyone who is a sports fan or considers themselves one should watch it IMO
