"It really wasn't an exciting fight. Everybody hyped it up to be. For (Melvin Guillard) calling me out, saying he's going to knock me the f*ck out in the first round, I would have rather had that happen, instead of him really not trying to engage with me."

"I was trying to put he pressure, trying to engage. I've never really seen Melvin fight like that; where he is just moving around the whole time. I thought we were just going to go to war, but it is what it is."

Definitely the culprit. I'm hoping that we don't see that same game plan from Condit.

There's "strategy" and there's "not engaging" and there's "counter striking" and there's "top control" and so on...and so on... Any or all of the above can make for a boring fight. At least he admits it (on Melvin's behalf).

We've all engaged in the "are we spoiled" versus "boring fight" debate, probably, at one time or another. My guess is, if you've been watching fights religiously for more than 2 years, and you think the fight was boring, it probably was.

I didn't think it was that boring. I was impressed at how well Melvin was getting in and out. He constantly engaged too. Never let too much time pass without doing something. I didn't think Stephens won even one round let alone the fight.

Guillard is a better fighter than he was when he went balls-to-the-wall and got subbed out. Offense wins games; defense wins championships. Welcome to professional sports.

Guilliard fought smart, but he shouldn't have ran his mouth so much prior to the fight. If Stephens was better he'd have countered Guilliard's simple strategy.

Stephens is just being bitter.

I agree that the fight was different than billed and expected, but Guillard used a genuinely intelligent strategy without being boring. Stephens is a tough cat who will punch most LWs to the moon if they don't respect his power. Guillard did; he used his speed and his footwork to outbox Stephens which is pretty impressive, really, considering how quick Stephens can be.

He was predicting a brawl but got out-strategized. It's not like he was being held on the fence for 3 rounds; he just lost to the faster fighter that night.
