A World Extreme Cagefighting official today condemned comments Donald Cerrone made about WEC 51 opponent Jamie Varner in a recent radio interview.

WEC Vice President Peter Dropick stated that Cerrone's comments "are not consistent with our company values" and the organization will not "tolerate the use of slurs that may offend any segment of the public."

The WEC.tv statement made no mention of a punishment, and officials declined to comment when contacted by MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com).

Where were the slurs? I didn't see any slurs in the quoted portions.

They weren't in that article. There was an interview circulating the other day where Cerrone called Varner a "f*g" and said that he hopes he kills Varner when they fight.

I figured this was coming when they posted that interview. I was surprised WEC even put it up on their website. Cerrone's mouth keeps writing checks and it's not too long before the company doesn't want to hear it anymore

Now I'm retroactively happy that Henderson clowned this guy.

I'm assuming that part was probably left out on purpose.

Agreed. I used to be a HUGE Cowboy fan but since this d*ck measuring contest started up with him and Varner, I've lost all interest in him as a person and as a fighter. In fact, I'll be rooting for Jamie to humiliate him.

"retroactively happy"....I like that.

Everybody did what they had to do here...WEC condemned his comments, Cerrone apologized (via twitter anyway). Nothing to see here, move along.

Seriously, this will be a recurring theme for years to come.
Step 1 - Bad words
Step 2 - codemnation
Step 3 - apology.

He called the guy a fag, big deal. I suspect every fighter has called someone they dont like a fag, at least once.

The WEC is overreacting, he called him a fag. So what? These are professional fighters for **** sake.

I learned that when i was 5. Am i really to believe that this is a big deal?

On a personal level- I could care less. If I'm the president of the WEC or some person who makes money off the company's image- I care a lot. Think about how many California fights the WEC puts on. Especially in the Sacramento area. You don't think the gay community will get pissed off about some comments like that? It's apparent they already did because they left the interview up for days before ever making a statement like this. Clearly somebody somewhere said something to someone. Hell, if California will boycott AZ for a law that was never even signed into the books then why wouldn't they boycott the WEC for bashing on gays?

I hate all the politically correct crap, but I think Cerrone's comments were uncalled for too. I'm not going to make a stink about it, but I'm not naive enough to think it won't affect the company business model when they do a majority of their business in possibly the most politically correct state with probably one of the highest percentages of homosexuals of all states in the union. Especially a state where many elected officials are openly gay.

Anyways it's all pointless. Cerrone will get put on his back and punched all day once again. If he's lucky Varner will get hurt again and fade due to how injury prone he is. But my money says Varner will dominate at least the first round and some of the second if not all of the second. In a 3 round fight that's all the man needs.

Plenty of people cared, dude. Just look back at the threads on this site. I'm a Frank Mir fan and I stated my piece on why saying he was going to kill Lesnar was a bit over the line and an image the sport doesn't need. Not to mention the countless amounts of media flak Mir got for it
