When Keith Jardine lost his Shark Fights debut against Trevor Prangley last weekend, effectively racking up his fifth straight loss, it didn't seem like things could get much worse for the struggling former UFC light heavyweight.

It appears it did.

Jardine has been suspended indefinitely pending a disciplinary hearing for allegedly shoving a Texas Combative Sports Program official prior to his main event fight Saturday night.

According to Jardine's manager, "The Dean of Mean" was reacting to being aggressively grabbed by fans as he made his way to the cage and thought he was pushing an overzealous spectator.

“What happened, when Keith got through the crowd area, he was stopped and somebody was pulling on his shirt, out of reaction Keith pushed the guy to get him off and it happened to be [an official]," Jardine’s manager, John Madrid told MMAWeekly. "There were no commission people or any security or anything to escort Keith out to the cage, and the TV guys are saying we gotta go. The crowd was really tight knit walking out, people reaching over the barriers grabbing at him and wanting to touch him. He’s standing there … he’s being grabbed, he turns around in instinct and pushes the guy back, thinking its an over aggressive fan, but it happens to be [an official]. He’s very apologetic to that. The only part that the commission saw was Keith pushing the commission guy.”

Here's the video of the incident, which seems to contradict Jardine's camp's side of the story. In the clip, it looks like Jardine takes umbrage with the official touching him while he gives him some last-minute instruction before he enters the cage and seems to clearly pauses for a second to look at who he is about to shove before giving the ref the "get the **** off me."

Surprised that Jardine would do that, but the video doesn't lie.

Pretty mean Keith! All joking aside that doesn't look all that bad to me how does Daley get a 30 day and Keith gets an indefinite suspension?

Why did he try to lift his shirt? Kind of odd, no?

But from the explanation in the article, I was expecting a lot of people surrounding KJ, but that clearly wasn't the case.

Jardine couldn't apologize to the ref after that? no problem with the suspension he looked right at him (should have realized it was the ref) then pushed him

Dude was trying to take off his shirt and the ref grabbed up on him. He's fired up cuz he's about to go in and beat the piss out of a guy (and/or get the piss beat out of him) it was just a small emotional outburst that should be expected from any professional athlete in this realm of sports in that situation. In the video you can even see Keith apologize directly afterwards. People need to stop making a big deal out of nothing.

The NFL does a great job of this. Notice how many little spats people get into during games. Refs just break it up and move on. Keep it all under the radar. Don't turn it into an issue. Wilson vs. Jackson this last weekend is a great example of that.

An apology should do the trick...at most suspend him for as long as his medical suspension is so he can come right back and fight with Texas still looking like they are hard on "crime".

It's hard to explain to someone who has never been in that situation, but people shouldn't be touching someone when they're about to fight. Fighting is something mainly handled by the mid-brain, and the mid-brain isn't able to recognize faces or features well. He likely just looked at the ref, didn't recognize him, and shoved him for touching him.

Hopefully it all just goes away.

Yeah, I totally agree. The guy has to be totally psyched up to beat someone's ass. The officials should know better or not be out there at all.

Not to mention, Jardine recently said in an article that he was suffering from a migraine before and during the early goings of the fight. If he was telling the truth, then someone tugging on his shirt would probably be ten times more annoying than usual.

I was going to mention this as well but I forgot. Good call

I think this is why Big John McCarthy was such a good ref. Due to his career before becoming an MMA ref he was a Los Angeles City Cop and Tactics instructor with plenty of experience. He knows about dealing with emotional people and how to read and manage a situation. McCarthy's intensity matched that of the competitors and therefore forced them to respect him. Which is very important in a situation where you're dealing with heightened levels of intensity.
