link Vitor Belfort has called for UFC president Dana White to allow him to fight James Toney - under boxing rules. Apparently Belfort also wants the UFC to stage the boxing match itself, presumably having the fight in the Octagon but under boxing rules.

James toney, put your money where your mouth is, you got your mma boxing match now man up... of course it would be easier if danna would be opened to it... personally i'd just like to see this one cause i actually do think that belfort can take toney, too much speed and he wont just stand in front of the guy to get knocked out.

I think Toney is completely washed up.....even in boxing and if they do end up boxing that Vitor would demolish Toney.

I was thinking the same thing. U cant deny Toney's credentials but his best years are behind him. Vitor may not have the boxing experience toney has but he has been boxing since he was like 17 so his technique is good, that combined with his speed would give him the edge in this fight IMO.

Glad someone is posting some sense. Vitor may have boxed since he was 17 but the levels of boxing are completely different!
Toney is a elite level boxer with years of experience, what makes Vitor dangerous is the fact that he has solid boxing AND his ground game to back it up!
In a ring Vitor would be out classed by Toney.

In boxing gloves, I don't think Vitor has a chance, even against an old overweight James Toney. If they were to box in four ounce gloves I think Vitor would find an opening for a flurry. Either way, it's a sad match-up either way, it proves nothing, let K-1 have their side show back.

I'm not saying Vitor would smash Toney, but putting them in the octagon is different than the ring.

Needless to say, this isn't going to happen anyways.

Thats what I was saying. Vitor is a dangerous fighter because he has a good ground game to back up his boxing. In MMA I'd pick Vitor hands down but put them in a boxing match and Toney's years of experience and higher level of boxing would shine through.

I guess i misunderstood the article. I was thinking the fight was going to take place in the octagon with 4oz gloves, just all punching. Toney would rule the ring for sure in a boxing match with boxing gloves hands down.

edit: Regardless of what rules the fight is held under, theres no way dana will go for it.

Somewhere Gary Shaw sweats feverishly while reading this.
I see Kimbo vs Toney somewhere in the future.
