Now I missed the fight live and only saw a very poor quality vid online. But today when I went to Cagepotato.com i was very shocked to see this!!! I know Diaz has good boxing. ButI had know Idea he had power to do that!! I wonder if Marcus' orbital was broken during the fight??

Well, first the rumor should be dispelled that you need power to break someone's orbital if that's really what happened. The orbital socket is actually the weakest point of the human skull.

That being said, of course you have to have some power in order to do it. But I think people would be surprised to learn about the very small amounts of pressure that are needed in order to break things on the human body. It's not so much about power as it is about landing just right. Not to mention Davis could have gone into this fight with his eyesocket weakened from numerous sparring sessions.

In short, I don't feel this is a testament to Diaz's power so much. BUT, I will say based on my own medical knowledge (I'm not a doctor, but I am trained in trauma diagnosis) that does look to be a fractured orbital socket.

According to CompuStrike, Diaz landed 114 punches, 108 of which they qualified as 'power strikes.' If a skilled striker lands 108 meaningful punches, I don't know if he needs to have remarkable power to cause damage.

By contrast, CompuStrike credits Davis with connecting on 52 punches, of which only 27 were 'power strikes.'

I saw them touch heads once accidently, but that was a few minutes after Marcus's face was already ground beef

Yeah, you could see at one point during the fight, they had a camera angle from behind Davis, and you could see the side of his face swollen up. It was terrible, and made me wonder, with how bad that was and how bad his cuts on his eyelid were, why the fight wasn't called before he got choked out? John Howard had a similar facial injury, no?

i feel for davis man, he was in front of his home crowd or at least in new england and got battered. then to top it all off gets choked unconscious. im sure he didnt want to tap in front of his crowd though. if his orbital bone if broke that will add insult to injury. not a good night.

I'm talking about 3:59 of the 1st round. After the putative collision Marcus' face looked a lot worse than prior and the collision occurred on the same side as the damage.

Ouch. I felt bad for the guy especially after he got choked unconscious that must have been the roughest night of Davis' life. Props to him for never quitting though guys who can keep fighting through an ass kicking like that and not tap even at the very end gain respect from me.
