Strikeforce's first trip to the Lone Star State resulted in an attendance of 8,635, which officials surely will consider a success.
Saturday's event, "Strikeforce: Houston," aired on Showtime with a pair of title fights and took place at the Toyota Center in Texas.
MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) confirmed with a Strikeforce official the attendance figure, which company CEO Scott Coker said in ni doubt was aided by former Houston resident K.J. Noons, who defeated fellow lightweight Jorge Gurgel on the night's main card.

Looks like he'll rematch against one of the most hittable men in MMA as well, and once again tool him on the feet.
Can't wait to hear the excuses from Diaz nuthuggers.

I loved kj dirty tactics. Knocking gurgel down after the bell then the knee too the face when his whole ass was on the ground.
I hope diaz or melendez just works him good

Explain how the knock down was dirty? The ref hadn't stepped in yet and the bell had rung in the flow of the motion, that's absolutely not his fault. As for the knee, the only thing I can say is that it didn't look like it hit his face, but his elbow.

Besides the knee there was nothing KJ did that was questionable.
Was a good night. We got to see Gurgel pay for wanting to stand again, and King Mo got KTFO'd! You gotta love that!

The knee was definitely illegal, but it's irrelevant the fight was over anyway. Gurgel was doneski. The punch wasn't his fault, but athletic commissions need to work something out for when a fighter gets hit after the bell. Regarless of the fact that K.J. was in the motion of swinging, Gurgel got damn near put to sleep after the bell rang and wasn't given adequate time to recover before coming back out. I don't think it would have made any difference in the outcome of the fight as good ole Gurgel decided to forsake his greatest talent again and bang with one of the most talented boxers in the division, but he still should have had more time to recover.

I'm not sure that he was to blame for the punch, but he still hit him after the bell. I think he started the swing just after the bell too, not before it. Hard to tell though.
The knee was definitely dirty and I'm surprised more wasn't made of it. IMO it was no different from what Jon Jones got disqualified for. Jones' fight with Hammil was over before the 12-6 elbows but he still got DQ'd for it. How is it fair that KJ doesn't get DQ'd as well?
Either way, I'm happy he didn't. It was a good performance. To bad Diaz is going to do the same thing to him

I'm just surprised at how little talent is in Strikeforce. I was expecting more from Lashley and King Mo. Strikeforce is still the same small promotion it has always been, they just have Fedor and Overeem.

What is wrong with Gurgel? How many times do you need to get demolished before you start fighting to your strengths instead of your opponents'? It's getting to a point where it's sad to watch, because his career could be quite a bit healthier than it is if he would just get it through his head that he isn't a boxer, submit his opponents and work on his striking in the gym.
I don't even want to watch the guy fight anymore. I'm sure he thinks he's "giving fans what they want" by trying to stand and bang, but I'd rather see a good fighter fighting to his strengths than someone getting repeatedly beaten into oblivion because he is too stubborn to actually fight to the best of his ability.
It's painful to watch, he does the same thing every single time. He's ruining his own career and potentially his health by voluntarily taking the 15 minute beatings he takes on a regular basis.
It's painful, I can't stand to watch the guy fight anymore.
