NSAC head Keith Kizer today revealed the preliminary fighter payouts for tonight's WEC 50 event. Every fighter will earn at least $3000 for their efforts with the highest possible payday being $35,000, which would be what Joseph Benavidez would earn if he beats WEC Bantamweight Champion Dominick Cruz for the title. Shane Roller would get $32,000 if he wins his fight while both Scott Jorgenson & Cub Swanson can earn over $20,000 with wins.

It doesn't seem right that Benavidez is making more than Cruz. Is he a bigger name? Not in my book.

Benavidez's disclosed payday, which calls for $17,500 to show and $17,500 as a possible "win bonus," tops champion and fellow headliner Dominick Cruz's $11,000/$11,000 deal.
His base and win bonus are larger so while Cruz will get more if he wins he still can not make as much as Benavidez can. That was my point. Which I still think is kind of screwed up.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. MMA fighters are just plain underpaid. I understand that WEC fighters are not quite as popular as UFC superstars, but getting paid that little to get punched in the face is very disheartening, even with backstage bonuses and sponsorship money. I could never see myself doing what they do for that kind of money.

i was thinking the higher pay could be because joe had more fights in the WEC, but this was the 6th for both guys. i guess coming into the organization as a training partner of the poster boy is good for your wallet.

Yeah you might, but elite level professional fighters should be getting better compensation considering the platform they're performing on..... Zuffa sells them as world class and pays them like their chumps..... 3K for 8-10 weeks of camp and the fight..... I'm not world class at anything, but my times worth more than that. Break that down to an hourly wage and you've got slaves pretty much
