Recently THQ blamed Red Dead Redemption for the relatively poor sales of UFC Undisputed 2010 when compared to the breakout hit of UFC 2009. Thankfully it now appears that they recognize there was a lot more to why the game faltered than just competition for dollars in the marketplace. While they don’t cite the quality of the game being an issue (actually referencing its 85 metacritic) what they seem to have realized is an annual UFC game may not be justifiable.

“We’re considering a longer development cycle—15, 18, 21 months, rather than annually.” (after releasing UFC Undisputed 2011)

Makes sense. MMA doesn't quite have the fanbase/gamer support like football or basketball, so expecting a machine to print money every year is unrealistic. Give it 2 years in the oven, releasing fighter stat updates and minor patches occasionally to keep folks feeling like they're supported post launch...

...and do a major overhaul on that netcode. If THQ wants folks to keep buying Undisputed, the fans need to view the online experience as solid and reliable instead of the buggy, crashy lagfest it is now.

This is a good decision.
Though 2010 wasn't a bad game it was essentially what 09 should have been from the beginning.

I don't think THQ should make another UFC gme until they fix the online play; it's beyond horrible.

MMA doesn't have a "season" like other sports, so releasing the game annually never made much sense to me. a release every 2 years or even 18 months makes more sense with downloadable content to fill the void.

never played the game myself but ive heard very mixed reviews and comments of the game... which made me hold off on buying it. I was addicted to the 2009 one but never even played the 2010. I did on the other hand buy red dead redemption and play everyday when i come back from work for about an hour or so, the game is so damn fun. anyways i think its good that they dont release one every year, would get redundant and casual mma fans would just b*tch about the controls and the fact that there arent alot of changes being made.
