The moments were ticking away on Anderson Silva's long reign, and the Oakland, California crowd was already preparing to crown Chael Sonnen. To the surprise of millions, the Oregon native had dominated every minute, virtually every second of their UFC 117 middleweight title fight. The bout was so lopsided, in fact, that Compustrike sent out press alerts as the fight went on to quantify the absurdity of what we were witnessing. Sonnen, the first notice announced, had outstruck Silva 51-2 in the first round. The second alert was even more astounding. Through three rounds, Sonnen had outlanded the champion 218-11. The king is dead, the announcements seemed to be saying.

I guess it's a silver lining for Sonnen. I'm still in shock. Injured or not, I've never seen a champ get dominated like that for that long. Let alone a P4P number one. This certainly must make GSP salivate at the chance to take on Silva.

One of them was too busy being caught between Anderson's legs

The numbers are impressive but you also have to realize that they were inflated by a number of 1 inch hammer fists that probably did little to no damage. I'm taking nothing away from Chael, he controlled most of the fight. But I believe with a few exceptions (some shots in the first and second and once late in the fight Sonnen landed hard) Anderson was doing more damage with elbows from the bottom. Chael's face was bruised and bloodied while Anderson barely had a mark.

You clearly missed the bruising on his face they highlighted at the end of the fight.

I've never been a fan of compustrike. I've always felt that fightmetric tells a more complete story.

Anderson Silva said that he had a ribs injury and he wanted to win by submission out of respect for the Nogueira brothers. I believe that Anderson Silva is past his prime and could be very vulnerable against Vitor Belfort or whoever his next opponent turns out to be. We'll see.

1 inch hammer fists or not, Anderson got owned for 95% of that fight. Fair play to him for keeping his cool and pulling the sub but I say Chael wins if they rematch (which they should)
