And he thinks all the "smack talk" leading up to UFC fights should stay in pro wrestling and prefers to let his previous fights do the talking when it comes to pre-fight hype. "I'm not in this to become famous or anything. I don't like all the hype and I hate talking smack. I just do this because I enjoy competing in martial arts. A lot of guys trash talk just to hype the fight and stuff like that, but I got into this because of martial arts and that's not what martial arts are about, talking smack and stuff like that. That's more pro wrestling than martial arts. When they're talking smack, I think it looks bad for the sport and sets a bad example. I don't want this sport to become pro wrestling where we have to do monologues where we talk about how we're going to beat somebody up. My previous fights should be enough to hype my next fight. If they're not, then I should remain on the undercard."

I agree with the him. I'm not a huge fan of trash talking even though its funny to listen to it does make me think of pro wrestling.

I agree there is a point at which it needs to stop, but this is a part of a business like this. For some people, they can't bring themselves to harm someone they haven't inhumanized in their mind, and trash talking is an easy way to generate that.

You don't have to love it, but the fact is, trash talk sells and attracts viewers.

I'd much rather do away with nicknames than trash talk.

Got any statistics to back that statement up?

Not personally, but I'm sure a successful company like Zuffa, who always runs countdown specials to hype fights/events, does have those stats.

I like how there is both - some that enjoy and excel at trash talk and some that don't. Some that have nicknames, and some that don't. Diversity baby.

I wouldnt care to watch another Silva fight if Sonnen wasnt talking so much trash. He's made me laugh a number of times and now I want to see if he can back it up.

Guess i'm a statistic!
