Apparently injured Mauricio Rua wants to return from knee surgery in December. Only one problem with that: Dana White, who said no to that...and perhaps to the dismay of Rashad Evans, also said no interim title. "This kid keeps pushing it to get out there faster and faster. I completely respect him for that. He's an animal. I love it. But there's no way he's going to be ready by December. People keep asking why he's had so many knee surgeries. That's exactly why he's had that many knee surgeries. I doubt [there will be an interim title]. When we did the belt for Brock Lesnar, we didn't know if Brock was ever going to come back or if he'd be out for a year or two. No interim title. We know this kid is coming back. He's already had the surgery. He knows exactly the date he can come back." Which could be as far out as June '11.

Love that Dana wants to stagnate the division for well over a year even more.

You can't please everybody, the biggest reason Shogun looked like **** for 18-24 months was because he fought injured and couldn't train proper. I'd rather see the best at their best I don't give a **** about no championship belts. Anybody that trains at an elite level would know that it takes a very long time to get back to that level after a serious injury. I'm a Shogun fan but I guarantee that was not the real Machida that he beat in that second fight, Machida got the **** beat out of him and he had surgery after Shogun/Machida 1, and more than Shogun, I think that was why he looked flat.

And that's why you headline cards with 5 round non title fights. Shogun is fragile with his knees. He can fight once a year but I want some 5 round fights. If no concession is made regarding that I'll be pissed.

I'm not an interim title fan at all. I understand why they are necessary in certain situations, but this isn't one of them. I think Dana should be commended for saying that Shogun needs to take the time to heal properly. He has a really good point the guy has rushed back from several knee surgeries and that is likely the only way Rua knows how to come back from an injury, but it's plagued him. I hear all the Dana haters saying they are upset because we won't see the lhw title defended for a year, but I promise if Joe Silva throws all of the other champions out there at us the hate will go away. Not to mention 205 is stacked and a year to sort out the division could be beneficial anyway. I'd like to see Rashad vs. Machida 2, Forest vs. Rampage 2, Jon Jones or Thiago Silva vs. any of the above. Hell even throw Randy back in the mix and let him fight a top 5 guy. Rich looked good in the Chuck fight too, and if Tito can come back strong against Matt (I don't necessarily anticipate it) then he could be a legit contender. There are plenty of entertaining fights in the division to justify giving Shogun the proper amount of time to heal.

This is a good call IMO....the LHW div can put on a couple of good high profile fights in the meantime that will help sort out the division. Rashad, Machida, Rampage, and Franklin can make for some good fights. Plus you have Jones, Bader and Lil Nog making moves in the division as well. No need to F up Shogun's career and health longevity if it's not needed.

I agree with Dana here. No reason to have him fight if he's less than 100%.

Its a good point but you have to imagine that fighting more than once every 12 months is in the description of the job. If you know what I mean.

No non title fights should be 5 rds. Interim titles should only be in extreme cases where it's more than a year between title fights. They mean nothing. It's a place holder waiting for the champ. Just put on good fights and that's all that matters.
And I don't wanna see Shogun come back and look like ass. Dana's right, the reason he always has knee problems is because he pushes it too hard to get back.
