Because according to Barry it's kinda hard to do so with a broken hand. And it hurt. "The world couldn't see it because the camera wasn't close enough to my face, but as soon as I broke my hand – that was the second punch I landed that knocked him down – as soon as it happened, my lip was starting to tremble, and for two reasons. One, it hurt terribly. I never would have guessed that it was only one broken bone. I felt like all the bones in my hand were, like, entirely disintegrated.... We were on the ground in the second and he was on top of me punching me and he asked me what was wrong. He said, 'What's wrong with you? Why'd you stop fighting?' I told him, 'I broke my hand,' and he was like, 'Bullsh*t.' I said, 'No sir. My hand is broken. That hand is gone.'"

Barry is one tough SOB, and after finding that out one hell of a find for the UFC. Not many people would have or could have hung in there with CroCop for another 2 rounds with a broken hand and foot.

LOL! I love the fact that they were discussing the fight while they were in the process of beating each other up.

that was a lot of fun to watch and a big part of it was you knew barry was having a good time and CC was more at ease leading up to the fight than he had been in the ufc. awesome story from barry, how can anyone not like the guy?

stupid excuse, the ground was the only place he was gonna be able to use elbows instead of punches. iono how he planned on winning on his feet if his hands too hurt to finish on the ground

That is so freaking awesome!
The fight is becoming something of legendary and how can it not?
The two guys hugged eachother laughing and then continued to kick the crap out of eachother.
That's some real tough love.

He just respected Cro Cop to much. I honestly don't think Barry even wanted to beat Cro Cop. He could have finished that fight, he just respected Cro Cop to much.

I thought he didn't follow Cro Cop to the ground because of his lack of a ground game.

Except that you kind of need to open and close your hand to make any positional movements on the ground.

wow, great pics. i don't get how dudes keep fighting. I jacked my ankle w/a really bad sprain in a soccer game and there was no way at all i could stand on that leg. I know a bad sprain can do more lasting damage than a clean break but pain wise i'm sure a break has to be at least as bad if not worse....wow.

same goes for the hand....i am amazed when fighters keep fighting after they break a bone.

when i broke my hand it hurt, but it wasnt super bad, i only suspected it was broken because of the swelling. but i still didnt see the doctor for over a week (because i could still make a fist, which the hand specialist was actually surprised by), ended up being bad enough i needed surgery, which sucked - 40 degree fracture. but anyways, a severely sprained ankle is definitely more debilitating in both pain and physical restriction in my experience.

as far as the using hands in grappling argument goes, when your hand is broken it is still good as a claw. you can grapple with a claw. and he wouldnt be going down to run jiujitsu, hed be going down to rain blows. its actually pretty amazing how bad he is at grappling for the time you would assume he spends training on it
