In any major sport there will always be the big stars, the breakout performers, and the face of promotions.
On the flip side there are the work horses, the guys that do the grunt work and don't get the fame, the fortune, and the respect.
With that in mind, here is a run down of the Top 10 MMA fighters who are underappreciated and don't get the respect they deserve.
Will Chris Leben make the list? ---------------------------------------------------------------
I'm not sure some of the guys on there deserved it. Hieron should be higher IMO. Tyron Woodley hasn't been around long enough to be 'under-appreciated'. Jim Miller at least gets respect from the hardcores. Bisping, even with all the criticism, is a pretty big star. And as for Evan Dunham, I think people are finally recognizing him after his win over Tyson.
What do you guys think? link

Hendricks as #1? Great list! Hendricks is going to be a big deal in 2011.

I guess a bunch of the guys on this list earned it with undefeated records against meiocre UFC or lower competition.
And if we have had any fighter figured out in the last year it's bisping, he got floored against hendo, kang, and Wanderlei and barely beat C- Kang, but for some reason he's not an underappreciated fighter?
Mayber the author forgot the stint on TUF and the fact that the ufc from 06-08 put more hyper behind him than Marquardt, maia, sonnen, combined up to this point.
It's ridiculous. And no, Mike Russow, Diabate, and Harris will not be breakout stars. They all are coming off big wins and already have people curious. They are just new to the audience.
The only breakout stars to surprise me last and this year were Paul Daley, Melendes, and Shogun. (melendes and Shogun fell off their horses for a bit)

i really dont think bisping should have been on there. he got his chance and didnt come through. plus it aint like hes a no-name. when you think british mma you think bisping. oh and what about being a coach on TUF? he should have been the OVERappreciated fighter because since then he hasnt impressed me. plus, somebody had to get KTFO after that season.

He is nothing special IMO. Woodley being underappreciated is bs...people are making a pretty big deal out of him. There are a lot of veterans and upstarts that don't fight on televised cards.

These lists are interesting, but they're certainly not news.
