The long-awaited rematch between World Extreme Cagefighting rivals Jamie Varner and Donald Cerrone is set for WEC 51 on September 30, a major fight card that will demonstrate the WEC's ability to put on big events even as its top star, Urijah Faber, nurses a leg injury.

Varner announced the Cerrone rematch on his web site, and the addition of that fight not only makes WEC 51 one of the best fight cards of the rest of the year in MMA, it also provides some hints about where the WEC is headed for the rest of the year, and what a future WEC pay-per-view card might look like.

Here's how the five-fight WEC 51 card on Versus is shaping up:

Jose Aldo vs. Manvel Gamburyan
Miguel Torres vs. Charlie Valencia
George Roop vs. Chan Sung Jung
Mark Hominick vs. Leonard Garcia
Jamie Varner vs. Donald Cerrone

This card is sick! I'm a Faber fan personally, but I would rather see Aldo fight any day of the week. Varner vs Cerrone is an exciting one too. Torres on that card too???!! Sick card! Them Zuffa boys really know how to make it happen. These kind of shows are the reason that Zuffa is such a powerhouse, but many casual fans still don't know about the WEC. WEC was the organization that encouraged me to start watching all of the other promotions i.e. strikeforce, affliction, elite xc back in the day. When Pride shut down I was pretty much a UFC loyalist, but when I watched a WEC card I realized that UFC does not equal MMA and that other promotions can still put on good fights. I didn't even know they were owned by Zuffa until the end of the card. Zuffa or not, these kind of shows help people to branch out to the rest of the MMA world which Dana has been adament about needing. I'm stoked!

I must be the only guy in the e.coast tristate area who don't get VS. channel included as a free and basic cable channel, I really like WEC, but can't ever see the live events or the wec unleashed type show thats on all the time.

It's a premium channel here. I'd have to pay an extra $5 per month to get it.

This card is almost as good as the PPV. I hope the fights are more enjoyable.

I would definitely pay to see this card, and actually i wouldve paid for alot of WEC we got for free. always been a fan of the WEC, never understood why people complained when they cam up with the PPV idea.

Human nature.

It's only natural to become upset when you start getting charged for something that's always been free.

They may want to make this a PPV. I think it would do well.

Damn 20dollars thats a bit harsh. As is Varner for sure. He rubs a lot fo people the wrong way. But the guy can fight...flat out. A re-match with Donald is a good fight for him and a winnable one. on top of that the rest of the card is crazy. Ohh....and I want to be the first to wish Manny a speedy recovery. Stay strong little buddy!!!

Not to look a gift horse in the mouth, but why aren't Garcia and Jung running it back on this card? Roop and Hominick could go at it. I mean, this card is amazing, but that fight was so awesome I just want to see it again.
