Frank Shamrock promised a "major announcement" during last night's Strikeforce event and he did make it...he's retiring from MMA. Unless he pulls a Randy Couture and makes a comeback he finishes his career with a 23-10-2 career record and 4 titles to his name including the first-ever UFC Middleweight Champion (now the Light Heavyweight Title). He lost his last 2 fights, both in SF to Cung Le & Nick Diaz.

It's a crime against humanity that Frank Shamrock and Kazushi Sakuraba didn't fight around a decade ago.

It was time to call it a day IMO. He proved he couldn't compete at the top in his last couple of fights. Fair play to Frank, he has done a lot for the sport

Good riddance Frank....now, if he would just retire from broadcasting.

I did not see this coming but when i saw Frank coming into the cage i know it was going to be the end and it was. Frank Shamrock will go down as one of the best fighters of all time. It is to bad we didn't get to see him fight again in the ufc or even see Frank fight his adopted brother Ken Shamrock.

Man... no reverence for the fighters that helped create this sport. In this game you're truly only as good or relevant as your last couple of fights.

Personally I'll miss some of the drama he brought to the fight game. Dude knew how to sell a fight and he had some good ones throughout his career. Is he beloved? Absolutely not. But he was an important fighter and he came from a generation of fighters that are all on their way out the door. Would have loved to see a Ken vs. Frank match at some point along the way but it's all good.

I firmly believe that he's the unsung hero of MMA. He kept it alive during the dark ages. If he would've been in his Prime when MMA was popular he'd be a huge star.
