After a medical condition forced him out of UFC 111 and put his future fighting career in jeopardy, Ultimate Fighting Championship welterweight Thiago Alves has been medically cleared to resume fighting. Nick Lembo of the New Jersey State Athletic Control Board today confirmed that the athletic commission has removed Alves' indefinite suspension. There are also reports the paperwork for his UFC 117 fight with Jon Fitch has also been signed, making the fight at long last official.

WAR FITCH

I feel as though Fitch is the clear cut #2 in that division and this fight should solidify that.

Then again, I could be totally wrong. In which case I will do all of the following and in this sequence-

Fitch is certainly the clear cut number one contender. His only flaw is that he doesn't have a brash personality, finish his fights in an exciting manner, and he's not well known. The man is one bad ass fighter. Fitch has one of the best chins in MMA, outstanding wrestling, above average wrestling, and definitely seems incapable of tapping due to any form of a choke. I think Fitch would beat Koscheck, and I completely feel as though Alves will have no answer for Fitch. Fitch's first fight against Alves was an entertaining fight to say the least, but that was some time ago, and both fighters have improved tremendously. Once GSP leaves the welterweight division, I think Fitch could be the next great champion. He's also one of my favorite fighters so of course I'm not biased! lol.

I think Alves has a good chance of beating Fitch if he can catch him with a big knee or punch early in the fight. I also think Kampmann can beat Fitch if he can avoid the takedown or at least be able to get up and not let him lay on him for three rounds.

lol. I have to be a dick, and I apologize in advance. First off, that was three reasons. Secondly, Jon Fitch is one of the most recognized WW's in the UFC, that's why almost everyone ranks him as second, or third if they're Alves nut huggers.

I agree with your assessment of his personality and fighting style though.

I think this fight is less about determining who the clear number 1 contender is (although that's a nice side affect). I prefer to look at is as we're about to see who's game has developed more since they're last fight. Is Alves' TD defense good enough now, and if it is, has Fitch's striking improved to the point where he can mix his td's up a bit?

I don't think his striking has, but I'm excited to see what Alves can do, especially after his disappointing failure with GSP.

On the internet, maybe.

Ask the casual fan who he is and they'll look at you like you're speaking German.

This fight will eliminate, or at least postpone, one likely rematch in a division reigned over by one of the two most dominant UFC champions. I don't think anybody at welterweight can defeat Alves or Fitch (besides GSP), so why not have them fight each other? It's the same reason that Marquardt vs. Henderson was pushed by Silva's camp and eventually the UFC prior to Dan's departure from Zuffa.

WAR FITCH!

Personally, I like Fitch better than Alves. What my head tells me in this fight though is that Alves might probly take it, unfortunately

Finally!!! It's about time I get to see this rematch! The first match was really good and this shouldn't be any different. Hopefully it lives up to the hype after how many times its been cancelled.

YAY!

I really have no preference as of now who I want to win. All I ask for is an entertaining fight, and this should be.

Fitch I think will take it. His wrestling is second only to GSP, and I think he'll keep that in mind when gameplanning. I think he'll follow a similar blueprint and take thiago down as often as possible. As long as his timing stays solid, he shouldn't be at risk of getting KOd by a knee a la Matt Hughes.

Also, thiago hasn't fought for quite some time, so we could hear "ring rust" more from this fight.

My pick is fitch by....UD (I'm sure the most common pick here)
