Or to quote a certain popular catchphrase, he was not impressed with his performance. "For me the fight [against Gilbert Yvel] is bittersweet. In one aspect, I got my first 'W' in the UFC and it was the kind of fight that I really had to dig deep. I had a feeling that Gilbert was going to train hard for this fight, he was extremely tough and took a lot of elbows. It's not a victory for me in a sense. I got some lumps on my head and the hardest part for me is I got the feeling that maybe Dana and the fans weren't so happy with the fight. I didn't finish the fight and that to me is unacceptable. I go out to finish my fights and I had to fight smart because he's a dangerous guy. This is the kind of fight that I made a vow that I will go home and continue my training immediately and the next time I'm back you're going to see an improved Ben."

Wouldnt mind seeing a match up between Rothwell & Herring, if herring is still w/ the ufc.

Ben fought a good fight. I think he gassed a bit after the fast paced first round. Also Gilbert is one tough SOB. He took a ton of elbows in the Barnett fight without tapping. I would like to see Big Ben fight Big Country again instead of Roy fight JDS.

Yvel did tap to Barnett. Maybe not from the elbows but he tapped.

I think you are correct he did eventually tap but not before eating tons of elbows from the mount.

He ate a bunch of elbows but he tapped from strikes at 3:05 in the third. Honestly, it's too difficult to tell what Yvel tapped from as Barnett spent most of that fight in full mount delivering hands and elbows to Yvel's face. He'd probably just had enough and realized he was going to lose a 30-24 decision anyhow.

I thought the layoff might have hurt him a bit. Looking forward to see if Ben improves in his next fight. One thing is for sure. He is tough as nails. He took a pounding from Yvel and hung on.

i really wasnt impressed with rothwell. i thought that fight was horrible. gilbert yvel was the only one making it exciting. i would like to see a rothwell nelson rematch. i think nelson owns him the next time around.

I thought he won the first time around. Judges saw differently.

I only see the Nelson Rothwell rematch happening if Roy losses to JDS, and then they may still want Ben to get a quality win first.

He's got a LOT of improvements to make if he's going to get quality HW win. I guess that would depend on what you call a quality win, though

Props to Ben for winning the fight, he showed a lot of heart...but Giblerbt gave him an absolute beatdown. I mean damn..he got throttled...and his cardio was absolutely horrendous. To get swept by an americana from the bottom by a guy with practically zero ground game...that's just embarrassing, and I'm sure it's not the performance he was expecting. Good luck to him, but I'm sure just about everyone can see that he is basically a UFC cut waiting to happen.

Yeah I don't see how anyone could have been impressed with Ben Rothwells performance. That was a disgrace. He got swept many times by a fighter that is known not to have a ground game, got destroyed on the feet and got GnP'ed. Then when he was on top all he did was lay there most of the time throwing a elbow here and there. If he bring that in his next fight against anyone with a little takedown defense he'll get destroyed.

he looked very loose on top and i hope he can sure up his top control since he does tend to go to his wrestling when he gets tagged. he does have a hell of a chin though
