Anderson Silva has cleared out the Ultimate Fighting Championship middleweight division outside of his upcoming UFC 117 opponent Chael Sonnen.
Widely regarded as the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world, if Silva comes away with a win on Aug. 7 at the Oracle Arena in Oakland, Calif., the organization plans to enter into talks with the Brazilian about possibly moving to the light heavyweight division.
“He’s got to get through this fight with Chael, and then we’re going to start talking about him going to 205,” said UFC president Dana White at the UFC Fan Expo.

I was excited to see Silva fight Vitor also. Unfortunately for Silva, his wins are not as good as GSP, and needs Chael and Vitor on the resume imo.

Id disagree with you actually. I think Anderson has had the tougher line-up of defenses than Gsp has.

No not a chance man, Leites, Cote and Maia are nowhere near the level of Fitch, BJ and Thiago.

man silvas cleaned house so good he is such a head above the rest people be hatin i just look at it as the champ has to fight whoever the ufc puts in front of em silva put fear in leitis and the guy didn't want to fight cote seemed content on being the first in the ufc to make it to round 3 with silva then the bud light logo blew out his knee and maia was getting destroyed in the first 3 rds and sure silva wasn't as active in the last 2 rds but all he had to do was flinch and maia would run/fall down i thought it was funny how maia talked about leitis after silva won saying he would never do what leitis did and he pretty much did the same thing anyway i would be happy to see silva move up

Nate Marquardt Dan Henderson Rich Franklin
As well as
Dan Hardy Matt Serra Matt Hughes(quite past his prime)
I think theyre quite even, but Anderson has had the harder competition, IMO

I llike the move I do think gsp should do same thing and move to middleweight
Vacant bout could be a belfort. Vs winner of silva/akiyama Or even okami in the fall
With machida out of the pic I see silva challenging for the belt in early 2011

I wouldn't say he has cleared out the division either, there's a few more fighters in there who could give him a decent fight:
Wanderlei Bisping Kang Miller

Silva has faced the tougher competition. Rich, Hendo, Marquardt, and Maia. GSP has fought BJ (too small) and FItch and Alves. Silva also has face Leites, Cote, and Lutter who weren't great competition. But GSP has also face Hardy, Serra, and a past his prime Hughes.
GSP has less defenses. He lost the belt once to Serra. One of his defenses is over a fighter who naturally fights one weight division below him.
Anderson has fought all of the Top competition in his weight class. He has dominated every one of the fights and never even really looked in trouble. Chael doesn't really add much to his resume (high risk low reward fight) and he doesn't need Vitor's name either.
So: tougher competition + more dominant victories + more defenses + no failed defenses + no defenses against lighter weight fighters= Anderson>GSP
Edit: Just remembered Lutter wasn't actually a defense.

Wanderlei Bisping Kang Miller
Kang was released after he lost to Bisping and if by Miller you mean Dan Miller, I think that fight would go either the same way as Leites and Maia, or it would end in the first round with Miller knocked out.
Not to mention Miller is on a 3 loss skid and hasn't really beaten top competition.
