You won't find many people who think Strikeforce welterweight champion Nick Diaz is a better mixed martial artist than UFC welterweight champion Georges St. Pierre. But Diaz thinks he's better than GSP -- and better than every other fighter in the sport as well.

Asked what he wants Japanese fans to see when he fights in Japan on Saturday, Diaz answered, "I'd like them to see that I'm the best mixed martial arts fighter pound for pound in the world."

I like Nick but I'm going to have to disagree with him in regards to GSP...he would struggle mightily with GSP's wrestling...I don't think GSP would be able to finish Nick but would most likely grind out a decision.

Plus, who knows if Nick would pass the piss test

I agree that Diaz should be considered the No. 1. But the only way to settle it is to sign Nick to the UFC and settle it but that will never happen so not point in arguing who is #1.

I like Diaz a lot but he is out of line here. I think GSP would own him on the feet and on the floor. In the end though I think he would take him to the floor and wrestle him to death. I could see a decision here but I could also see a GNP type win for the French wonder.

I DO hope to see Nick in the UFC at some point though...seems like a long shot at this point though.

This is Laughable.........The only reason he is doing so well right now is because he is not fighting in the UFC........He could not even hang with the top 5 in the UFC.....

Yep...beating Frank Shamrock & Scott Smith doesn't make you P4P best...he needs to step up his competition for sure.

Coincidentally Diaz also smokes so much weed that he's probably lost touch with reality, lol.

You gotta have confidence as a fighter but sometimes you can go overboard. Isn't this the guy who lost a fight to KJ Noons?

Diaz lost by cut. Which should be a NC in my opinion. If they fought again Noons would be crushed. So GSP lost to Serra, isn't that the same thing for comparison, the only difference is GSP was able to avenge that loss.

Diaz beating Zaromskis doesn't count as a top win? Being he was Dream WW tournament champion?

LOL did you see the fight? Diaz was getting absolutely dominated. He was literally scooting across the floor at one point trying to cover ground so he could get a takedown.

I wouldn't say he was getting dominated. He got caught but, Zaromskis also has nasty standup. I mean he knocked out what, 3 maybe 4 people in a row by head kick KO. Besides who cares if he was lossing the first few minutes. He knocked out a standup fighter on a tear in the first rd.

No, I wouldn't count Zaromskis as a top WW win. This has been a problem ever since pride fell. People look at Japan, see a champion, and assume that they're of the same caliber as the UFC champs. The fact of the matter is, they're not, and they haven't been in a while. Japan hasn't developed with the game like the UFC.

Proof: Shinya Aoki, considered to be the east's best fighter, was defeated by Gil M....While I don't think Gilbert is bad, I wouldn't put him in the top 5 of his weight class.

As for Diaz, no he isn't the best, nor is he top 10. He probably wouldn't even beat Jake Shields, who moved up weight classes because Nick is his friend. Anyone that disagree's with my assessment, please give me a reason to prove you wrong.
