In a follow-up to Belcher's desire to fight more notable talent, singling out recent title contender Demian Maia:
"A middleweight match-up between Alan Belcher and Demian Maia has been verbally agreed to by both fighters for Ultimate Fight Night 22 on Sept. 15, MMA Fighting has learned from sources close to the event."

I am excited for this, I think it has potential for a great fight, I Maia takes the fight, Belchar has good skills everywhere, but I think Maia's BJJ wins him this fight.

Love the match up...I just don't think Alan is on Maia's level just yet in his career.

i dont think maia is on belchers level at this point in his career either, tho
it will likely be a somewhat 1 sided fight when all is said and done, its just almost impossible to say which side. i mean belcher is a better striker than marquardt and we all saw how that fight went for maia

I love this fight. Alan wanted a step up in competition, he deserved it,and now he's got a serious challenge in Maia.
I don't see a negative for belcher here, because if he loses he has time to build back up and train, whereas a win would catapult him into the title picture.
As for Maia, I see him needing a win here if he wishes to stay in the upper echelon.

That's why they say "Be careful what you wish for." I see Maia taking this fight pretty dominantly. His stand up is going to be a little less developed than Belcher's but mainly in the kick department....Maia has shown some decent defense against the kick (low high and mid). Neither has KO Power and Maia is light years ahead of Belcher on the ground. I hope this humbles Belcher who I feel was out of line with that last interview (a shame to because I like the guy, just not his tattoo)!

Maia should take this one pretty handily IMO. Belcher has pretty underrated BJJ but stylistically I don't feel this matchup favors him. Although the size differential will be interesting to see.

My pick on this will depend on what Maia did to improve his stand-up after being throttled by Silva. If Maia made changes to his stand-up, there's no way Belcher beats him.
