Because opponent Matt Lindland says, among other things, it's embarrassing. "Another embarrassing thing for him. He's rapping and his claim to fame is hanging out with Spencer Pratt? I mean, I actually feel sorry for the guy. Does he not have any friends who can give him some advice? You know, someone should be there to tell him, 'Stop rapping, and stop hanging out with this guy Spencer who's a complete douchebag.' What is he doing? I mean, I haven't met Kevin. He seems like a quality individual, but people are going to question your character when you're hanging around jokers like Spencer Pratt. And the ridiculous rap videos don't help with that either." They headline tonight's Strikeforce Challengers event.

Why would a BJJ fighter with virtually no experience think they're walking into the cage with an advantage over someone like Matt Lindland? I mean the only real advantage Casey has is youth. Lindland is definitely on his way out the door but I'm not really seeing an out for Kevin Casey here.

BTW- I agree with Lindland's comments about Spencer Pratt. You gotta be kidding me. For the sake of MMA I hope that ultra-tool doesn't put his stamp on MMA via some kind of stable of fighters.

Casey is a brown belt training under Rickson, but the funniest thing is that he was once a self proclaimed black belt...yep, he literally graduated himself to black belt, lol. I saw Spencer on The MMA Hour the other day and was obviously doing the normal Spencer thing in order to hype this fight, but that guy will be lucky not to get a beatdown on the street somewhere with the things he was saying about fighters. Spencer actually insinuated that was going to into MMA as a fighter and has already discussed it with Coker at length. I highly doubt it though...the guy just likes to talk IMO. I just wish all the teenage girls in this country that tune into the Hills would get tired of him already, so I don't have to see this guy everywhere.

I get that he's a brown belt under Rickson but he's 3-1 going up against a guy who has been in the cage with some of the best. Not to mention that by virtue of being a brown belt BJJ artist as his main style that means at some point he has to try and wrestle Lindland to the ground to work his craft.

I figured all of that ^^ went without saying in my original comment, but I guess not.

Anyways I guarantee Palhares is a much more dangerous BJJ practicioner and more than likely a better wrestler than this guy. And we all saw how his fight with Hendo went down. I'd imagine this to look similar except Lindland doesn't have the power Hendo does.

Oh, I wasn't trying to argue that his brown belt meant anything...it was just a build up to black belt story. I don't see his BJJ meaning much against Lindland at all.

You don't want to unless your life revolves around the reality TV programming of the network formerly known as Music Television.

Ya in order to submit a wrestler of Lindland's caliber you have to have World Class Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (which according to Mike Goldberg is every BJJ fighter in the UFC). Not to mention one that's been in the game as long as Lindland has.

I'm picking casey on this one, I just don't think Lindlands head is in the game anymore. I'll be rooting for lindland though. Oh ya I will also be in the 4th row I'm stoked!

Wow. That was embarassing. I'm even more convinced that Lindland is going to wreck this dude now. Holy cow. Shameful.

LOL looking at Lindland's record he's only ever been submitted three times.

1- Jacare in 2009

2- Fedor in 2007

3- Murilo Bustamante in 2002

Is Kevin Casey on ANY of those guy's level? I'm kind of hoping he shocks me now.

Isn't a mirror of Rickson though? That front kick to the knee/shin follwed by the punch. Its Gracie striking

I thought that as well. You can definently see the Rickson influence working through him.

When I watched that god awful "highlight" reel the first thing that came to my mind was Gracie striking. Royce use to use that front kick/jab technique in the early UFC. Seems like he's on par with Gracie stand-up. I'm not so sold that he's all that great of a brown belt, though. Either that or the guy that created said reel just did a horrible job of picking his clips.
