Brazilian jiu-jitsu superstar Robert Drysdale will soon test the waters of mixed martial arts.

The Canadian-based Armageddon Fighting Championship today announced that Drysdale has signed a four-fight contract with the promotion and is expected to make his debut on July 17 at the company's third event, "AFC 3: Evolution."

An opponent has yet to be determined.

Drysdale fought one amateur contest under the Las Vegas-based Tuff-N-Uff banner and handed a then 5-0 Josh Musick a first-round defeat via armbar.

Was Drysdale the guy who didnt make TUf because they found something wrong with his brain like they did that other guy a season ago?

Well I never heard about the growth thing, but this guy is one of the best no-gi grapplers in the world, I haven't a clue what his stand-up will look like, but this guy should be taken seriously by anyone who steps foot in the ring with him. I think there is a good chance we'll see him in UFC middle of next year, which is probably too soon.

Yeah I think his lengthy time waiting to debut was because he was training his standup and other parts of a complete MMA game. The guy is amazing on the ground, if he has TD's watch out!!!

Yeah, he trains a lot of top guys, I would expect him to have a functional stand-up at the minimum. I think he will have early success and get rushed in with guys he's not ready for.

They really played him up in that Tapout comercial didn't they. Two flying submissions!! The guy is good but stuff like that at a top level is near impossible! Kinda made me biased against the guy. We'll all see what he has come July!

He beats a few club fighters and gets destroyed by anyone with a sprawl in the first big show he fights in.

This guy is intelligent and I guarantee, he's not going to get too flashy, he trains with Mir among others, he knows what happens in the real world of MMA. I would rank him among the top 25 heavyweights even before his debut.

Unless he wants to stay in smaller shows he will never be a well ranked fighter. I am more and more skeptical about ADCC level grapplers crossing over. They usually lack the wrestling to impose their will and never have the striking to hang with guys they can't take down. At best he will be a Werdum/Maia, at worst a Jeff Monson.

In MMA it is increasingly hard to submit top ten fighters, and the study of successful guard players is left up to archeologists and cryptozoologists. This species is extinct.

It will be exciting if he can bring some striking to the table, though.
