When Luiz Cane was destroyed by Antonio Rogerio Nogueira this past November at UFC 106, no one was more shocked by the result than "Banha," himself.

His lone prior loss was via disqualification after blasting James Irvin with an illegal knee at UFC 79 in December 2007.

But Nogueira outstruck the brawling Cane and earned a TKO in just 1:56. With Cane now scheduled to face French striker Cyrille Diabate at UFC 114 in May, the Brazilian slugger said he's working on a complete retooling effort to address the lessons learned against Nogueira.

Rogerio owned him with basic boxing fundamentals. If Cane didn't have those figured out by the time he fought Noguiera he's never going to figure it out.

You're doing fine, Cane.

Just train to fight a southpaw fighter when you're fighting a southpaw fighter next.

I think that Rogerio possesses slightly more than "basic" boxing skills.

Against Cantwell he had steller hand position, speed and defense. Not to discredit Rogerio, who I think is the fourth best LHW in the UFC and someone I'd rather see fight for the title than Rashad or Rampage, but Cane looked slow and his normally shell-like defense was absent entirely and he left his face hanging out there to be countered and slapped silly.

I am surprised Cane didn't reveal a bad injury. Didn't look like himself.

Rogerio has the best boxing in the division this side of Anderson Silva by the way.

Sorry, but he's been fighting in the same style his entire career. It works very well, but a lack of head movement and willingness to absorb strikes to make counters doesn't work against much better strikers. You can't question Cane's heart, but some fights are just going to be too far out of his element, and changing your style completely is going to take a LONG time, if it's even possible. Keep in mind Matt Lindland has been working his Muay Thai for a decade, and still fights like a dirty boxer.

Cane is a great fighter with a ton of heart and a killer punch. i really hope that NOG pounded some sense into him. He needs to work his footwork and head movement for sure. For along career he can't take hard punches over and over. But his style plays well with Diabate's. He'l counter strike the hell out of him. Banha takes this one, late in the 1st. TKO

He has to be able to land on him to counter strike, and Diabate has 4 inches of height and easily 6 or more of reach. That and he hits very hard. I think it's a close fight, but Cane is going to get hit a lot more than Diabate. I think it plays out a lot like Cane vs. Cantwell, but with Diabate taking less punishment and taking a decision.

He's a solid fighter, a loss to someone of lil nog's caliber isn't all that disappointing of a performance IMO, at least not in the eyes of the spectators. Dude has some of the best boxing in MMA (nogueira)

i think Diabate is going to be very pumped up for his octagon debut and coming in a bit too aggressive and Banha is going to put him to sleep. Most of Diabates strike that i have seen have been powerful but looping and he leaves himself wide open at times.
