One of the tough things about combat sports is that fighters compete so infrequently that every single loss seems like the end of the world. In other sports athletes can usually end a losing streak the next day or the next week, but in fighting losses take on added significance because you won't get a chance to win again for months.

I agree that Urijah having to retire for a loss to Aldo is stupid. Urijah will likely drop down and become champ. If not there is plenty of good fights. I wanna see Miguel Torres vs Faber.

Way to support your hometown guy, might as well take away urijah faber day also. I think Faber needs to stop fighting in Sac Town for awhile even though it sells good.

first off i'm not a Faber fan at all..but with all this talk of him retiring..r u f*ckin stupid or something..i mean the dude was on top of the world, only a year or two back..and he only has 4 total losses(i think)..i mean wow..some way to support ur hometown fighter..stuff like this makes me wonder why some ppl watch mma..if i gave up on my favorite fighter once they lost or started losing..i won't even have a favorite fighter right now..lol..that guy that wrote that article should stop writing for the paper or stop watchin mma..cause his knowledge in one of those area isn't too good..lol...

He should not retire, but he should move on to a new camp where he isn't top dog and where someone with a brain makes the gameplans.

After a flaming turd of an article like that, maybe Victor Contreras should retire.

Faber isn't ready to retire. Hes still got a lot of years left in him. For them to boo him after his fight that just shows their stupidity. They new Faber was the underdog coming in and they gave him so much support. So when he lost they booed him. Its hard for me to call these people real fans in the first place. A real fan sticks behind their favorites. Especially their hometown favorites. Sounds like these people just hung Faber out to dry. They need to stop going to Sacramento so much anyway. It seems like almost every WEC card Faber is on it always is in Sac Town. Its the equivalent to them putting Bisping on every UK card.

WEC always runs Sacramento because they'll always get more than 12,000 people in attendance, usually a sell-out. Run it anywhere else in the country and they're lucky to get half that. Money talks.

This is the dumbest f*cking thing I have read in a long time (the article not the post). I'm pretty sure that Jose Aldo has beaten everybody he's faced with the exception of one person. Urijah has given his soul to Sac Town and this is how they repay him? By their logic the Kings should just fold as a franchise, lord knows they have NEVER won anything. I'm pretty sure that the only champion Sacramento has ever had is Urijah Faber. Excuse me, upon further review as I am writing this post I have discovered that the WNBA's Sacramento Monarchs also brought a championship home in 2005.

Faber has a lot of great fights with top opponents waiting for him. claiming he needs to retire is ridiculous.

even if he does retire he has a bright future as a coach, just look at some of the guys that are coming up from his team!
