Ricardo Almeida may get the chance to take his frustrations out on Matt Hughes in a possible welterweight showdown at the upcoming UFC 117 event planned for Aug. 7 at the Oracle Arena in Oakland, Calif., according to a McTweet from ESPN's Franklin McNeil. Almeida has won 3 in a row and could be looking to avenge the recent loss by his master and friend, Renzo Gracie, who was TKO'd at UFC 112 by none other than Hughes.

I think Hughes is getting real close to the end of the line, that last fight with Renzo looked terrible IMO....I didn't see any of the explosiveness that he used to have at all.

Terrible match up for Hughes. Almeida is on his way to a title shot in the next year. He looked great against Matt Brown.

IMO the UFC and Hughes are trying to be very careful with who Hughes fights from here on out. They are going to avoid the top 5 or 6 guys in the WW division like the plague. I see Kos, Daley, Rumble, Alves, Fitch, Thiago all as fights Hughes wants no part of, cuz getting KTFO'd kinda sucks.

So they revived the Serra/Hughes 'rivalery'.....Hughes eeks out a decision against Serra....questionable one too

The they create some crazy garbage and put him in a fight against Renzo Gracie (who was obviously in no shape to fight)....big deal he wins.

In the last 2 years Hughes has a decision over Serra and a victory over Renzo....I'm sayin whether the UFC knows it or not Almeida could be more than they expected.

I don't know who has less power in their hands Shields or Hughes. I would like to see Hughes fight Diego. Or bring back Karo and let him fight him.

I love this match up. Great story line with Hughes having just beat Renzo. Also it's a good fight for hughes. Almeida is a real up and coming contender and if Hughes beats him it will mean a lot.

If Ameida wins it adds legitimacy for a title shot to the average fan because Hughes is a big name.

Almeida getting a title shot would suck as much as Hardy getting one.

This is the match up Ive been wanting to see. I got almeida taking this one decision. I think Hughes will have some trouble coming up with a game plan for this one. Almeida Unanimous Decision.

I like Almeida's chances in this fight. not sure eather has the edge standing. Ricardo is definatly better from a jits stand point but Matt is a legendary fighter....he got there from his dominant top game. i like the fight and have to say that im on the fence as of yet if the fight happens.
