I don't know why everyone acts like MMA fighters hit so much lighter than Boxers.....that combined with the incredible gap in Toney's fight game spells not only an early but probably an easy victory for Couture. I hope the UFC never uses this tactic again....it's complete garbage, and then they talk smack on other orgs for doing basically the same thing....

this type of stuff gets me nervous.
Randy could easily win this and i'm expecting him to but he won't be able to take shots from toney. despite the fact that folks are saying Toney wasn't a knock out artist...the truth is he can knock out anyone in the UFC if he lands it right and his accuracy is excellent in boxing....whether or not it'll translate to MMA...i have no idea. For randy it should be kicks, takedown, gnp and a sub.

get serious how and the hell does toney win this he cant stop randy from taking him down and beating the crap out of him. this is a really bad match up for toney he needs someone like kimbo that'll be willing to stand and box with him. those that think randy will lose this needs to quit dreaming. only way toney wins this is in a boxing match wont happen this is mma.

Sweet another good fight for boston
Randy plays it smart and takes him down and either mount
Him and ground n pound. Or sub him out

If he tries to make a statement with that glass chin of his he will
Get knocked out

bad first fight for Toney. I would have rather seen a Kimbo fight.

I hope Couture can pull it off.

Boxing fans are gonna rant if Toney wins.

& boxing fans (that just love boxing) are going to rant when randy takes him down and pounds him out. They'll say MMA fighter's are scared to stand with boxers..etc.

that's the reason the argument is so silly. an MMA fighter should always win against a boxer if it's an MMA fight and vice versa.

I think this is a bad match up fro Toney. Randy will have his way with him on the ground. Which I expect Randy to get it therer in the first 2 sec of the fight. Short night for Toney. Ref stoppage 2 mins in . Brutal GnP. WAR RANDY!!!

I don't think boxers hit harder than MMA fighers, I am saying that most of them don't hit as hard as Toney. The man did amass 44 KO's out of 83 professional fights. He's no stranger to throwing really hard punches.

Could draw in some serious old school boxing fans if they promote it right. I'm sure Dana will, too.

A few points I would like to make about this bout.

1. In theory Randy should be able to take Toney down without a hitch. I mean the guy is in his mid 40's and pinned Brock Lesnar up against the cage at the start of their fight. that's truley amazing.

2. The problem with this being is that Randy likes to work a clinch peppered with dirty boxing then execute a takedown. In order to beat Toney I believe he's going to half to just abandon any hope of gaining posistion from the clinch and go straight for the legs. Randy's style of fighting is a type that's catered to a guy like big Nog who likes to stay close to you. In a simuliar fashion,Randy may be in complete control of the clinch game but Toney can always land that big shot with his own dirty boxing.
If Couture plans on keeping the fight within that range of combat he's going to have to except the fact he's eating punches until he gets James Toney to the ground.

So here's mr. Smileys keys to victory.

1. Randy should be cautious entering a Greco Roman style clinch and stick with double leg takedowns.

2. If Randy follows this plan then Toney better hope he's been training seriously because the fight will be over in about 2 minutes.

This ends up being a really good matchup because Couture is the obvious favirote but their's just enough room to except the possiblity of an upset.

this should be pretty comfortable for couture. toneys likely lack of takedown defense means couture won't really have to set up for the shot as much as he normally would. that will will limit his time in the danger area removing most risk of the ko.

Yeah...Toney can box REALLY dirty. I'm sure he's had many wars in Philly in the gym where it got dirtier than a mud bath. I really like Toney and I'd love to see him fight a striker but it is extremely doubtful that he can stop the takedown attempts of Coture. In fact, he'll get taken down on the very first one. Toney will talk though and make it more entertaining by saying that Randy was a little snitch for not being willing to bang with him. hahaBut yeah the clinch against the cage may not be the best thing. I mean telling a guy like Bernard Hopkins or James toney that you can hit people with shoulders and elbows? Come on man. That's like a dream for them. ;)
