I've seen the fight three times now, and I still have B.J Winning. Edgar landed a lot of neat combos, but when penn landed, edgar was always sent running out. You could tell who was winning the exchanges, and who was simply trying to pepper him with shots.

Fights are scored on more than just strikes landed. Edgar had 2 TDs, which no has done to BJ in a very long time. IMO had "octagon control" throughout the fight. He dictated where the fight went the entire time, through better footwork and combinations. Also BJ's face didn't help him with the judges. It was a very close fight but I can see how Edgar got the nod.

Pretty sure no one is saying this was a landslide or that BJ put on an amazing performance.

The arguments about people being biased, about how BJ looked sad at the end of the fight, they're all really irrelevant. The only thing that really matters is who punched the other guy more times per round, and in the first 3 rounds, that was BJ.

I don't think 48-47 Edgar is indefensible, I felt like the third could possibly have gone either way, but that overall Penn was landing more shots and most of Frankie's punches were being dodged.

This is exactly what I was talking about in the other thread. The fact that no Lightweight had taken Penn down should mean nothing for the purpose of scoring this fight.

Takedowns also shouldn't matter if the guy stands up literally within half a second of being taken down.

Takedowns are a way to put yourself in a position to damage your opponent, not a way to damage your opponent in and of itself, so a takedown that isn't followed by any form of ground striking or grappling should mean absolutely nothing.

2 takedowns successful for edgar. And like 11 takedowns stuffed for Bj.
Thats a batting average of .154

To be honest, edgar's first takedown shouldn't have applied. In no sport that uses takedowns would that be considered one, so why would MMA be different? Edgar had no control over Penn.

Fight Metric only counted the one in the 5th round for that reason.

Anyone ever think that this may have been B.J's last fight at lightweight and he was dropping the belt to Edgar. I just can't fathom that being the real B.J Penn that i saw on Saturday. The same Penn who impressed both Florian and Sanchez in his last defenses. I think not only did Edgar lose the fight but B.J. didn't try to win, and that hurts the most as a PPV buying fan. I am more hurt by B.J.'s performance than the outcome of the Shogun vs. Machida fight. Penn would have gotten all the attention had the fight after his not been the worst title defense in UFC history.
