So, I was watching the UFC Q&A from last weekend, which featured Renzo Gracie as the guest. He mentioned that he was assisting a former UFC fighter to sign a contract with the UFC. He mentioned that he was also a former champion. While checking his phone for a text message from the mystery fighter he made a comment that he wasn't sure whether the message was in English or not...which let the cat out of the bag for me, meaning that the fighter was also Brazilian. I'm fairly certain that Bustmante is the only Brazilian champion that's not already currently signed...with the exception of tournament champions, but I don't think that's what he meant.
Anyone heard anything about it?

No I haven't heard anything, but then again, I am pretty much out of the loop these days.
If it is true, I am not particularly excited about it. I don't think Bustamante could bring anything to the UFC other than being a gatekeeper.

I agree about Bustamante not bringing anything to the table. The man is getting up there in age and hasn't fought in years, and anyone credible even longer. What's the point when there are plenty of better, more worthy up and comers that deserve a place more?

I didn't catch that interview, but Bustamante, has always been pretty overrated and overhyped. Nine of his twenty-two fights have gone to decisions, and his record is 3-6 in those fights. He's a gatekeeper at best, he is a very tough guy to beat, near impossible to finish, but he's old and he's got ring rust.

I think Bustamante would destroy Chael Sonen, due to his world-class guard.

I think any solid wrestler would LnP his way to a victory over Bustamante... unless you were being sarcastic.

No I wasn't, Bustamante has a good track-record against wrestlers.

Other than his fight with Lindland, what other prominent wrestlers has he beat?

Proven track record of losing decisions. He's a ground specialist with no submissions, you don't win fights by having a good guard, especially the way the decisions have been decided in recent years.

If Sonnen can nullify Paulo Filho and beat Demian Maia, I am pretty sure he would have no problem besting Bustamante on the ground.

Maia defeated Sonnen by triangle choke, and I think Bustamante would do the same. Bustamante also has very good boxing skills.

Well if he beat Maia I would agree with you. To bad he was tossed down and put in a slick triangle from mount. He also lost to Filho by armbar. Along with being subbed by Horn, Prangley and Forrest Griffin.
