Is WEC 48 Worth the PPV Price?
On April 24th, 2010 the WEC will broadcast their most stacked card to date. The card will feature two title bouts as well as a possible featherweight number one contender fight between Mike Brown and Manny Gamburyan.
The increase in card quality is not the only change from the usual WEC programing.
Instead of the normal free basic cable broadcast WEC 48 will set you back $44.95 for a standard PPV buy.

WEC always puts on an amazing show, sometimes even better than the UFC does. They fully deserve the ppv status imo.

Excitement is great, but local shows are exciting, very much so, KOTC is exciting, so if excitement is worth that stupid ass price tag then go for it. But if you wanna based on talent and quality skip it. It's dumb, and I hope they learn their lesson when NO ONE buys their card.
The WEC used to put on better cards than this back in 08 for free. And to be honest they don't have enough talent to make me buy the card. Who do they have really on roster who could compete at UFC level competition in the same weight, not much. Faber, Brown, Aldo, Henderson, maybe Cerrone, those are the only ones I can really think of other than the guy who just took the 135 title, can't remember his name.
And how many of them are fighting on this card? I will watch the WEC on tv for free, but I will encourage all my sriends to skip it and instead put that money toward Abu Dhabi.

i predict a very very low buy rate for this show, I will be very surprised if it surpasses 100k, very surprised, i think it will be a flop

I think that everyone is use to getting WEC fights for free, so when all of a sudden you have to pay $45 bucks you feel jipped. IMO this card is the best card WEC has ever put on! I would pay $100 for this card if I wasnt going there already. I think that this PPV will do well enough and will only grow.

WEC puts on amazing cards and exciting fights. IMO Zuffa should have long since pulled the WEC under the UFC banner, both for the fighters sake and for viewing sake. This is also one of the biggest cards they've ever had. That being said, it's not worth the money. For the lightweights, while i love them, especially Ceronne, they're entire reason the WEC has succeeded has been it's availability to people.

This one, to me as a real MMA fan, is worth the money. It is going to fail miserably though. It's sickening to me that a weak UFC with Kimbo on it would absolutely crush WEC's best effort.

Ceasarrr mad a good point on availability creating success, TUF was UFC's version of it a couple of years back and look what it did for them. This event will answer the question for the WEC Brand, has it been available enough for long enough to get people to be willing to pay for it. Sadly I think it will fail, but they will probably try it several times.

if they want ufc money they need to merge with the ufc. would also help solve the problem of the ufc always being overextended and having no good answer for when people pull out of fights due to injury, drugs, etc.
the card is certainly worth the money if most of the recent ufc ppvs were worth the money, but i kinda think they werent. most bars that buy ufc arent gonna buy this ppv either and youre actually gonna have to buy it yourself if you dont want to watch it illegally

this first card is worth it, but after that they dont have the big names to really warrant PPV..granted the fights may be better etc... it doesnt have the market and big names to make it worth it
