Or perhaps 2 refs according to Dana White. It could be the real Clash Of The Titans. "I think a lot of people are happy that Lesnar's back and this is a real heavyweight fight with two real heavyweights that deserve to be there. I think it's going to be big. I was debating whether I was going to bring [Lesnar into the cage at UFC 111.] I wanted to see what Shane's disposition was after the fight. Those two start going at it, there wasn't enough people in there to break that thing up. They're going to have to have like the F-ing Hulk referee that fight. I don't even think Miragliotta's big enough. We might need two refs."

Actually, as long as they have someone with half a brain that doesn't stand fighters up solely because the crowd is boo'ing, they'll be okay.

Unfortunately I think that the worst ref in the business is also the only one big enough to manage separating these 2 if something happens, not that I would ever expect it to.

Time to bring Big John back, athletic commissions.

The women ref should probably just ref this match, haha.

I'm sure White's only saying that to hype the fight up. I understand that these two probably don't like each other, and will have adrenaline rushing through them, but you have to give them more respect than to say that they'd need a big ref to break it up. They professionals, if they don't want to act like it, they can leave the UFC. Miragliotta is quite possibly the worst ref in the business. They don't need someone big, they need someone who knows what they're doing, and they need to trust the fighters, or refuse to let them fight.

This brings up a question I have-

Supposedly the UFC has no choice over who refs what fights. Well then why is it that we always see the same refs with the exception of a couple? Clearly they must have some choice. Can anyone explain that?

Yamasaki vs. Mirgliotta Loser Quits Match under Pride Rules.

If white is serious then he'll need to get the Super Hulk Champ Minowa

Since this fight would be in Vegas, the choice of referee is up to the sanctioning body in the state hosting the event, meaning the NSAC. Likely meaning Herb Dean.

Well that's what you would think- but why is it when they go to other states the same refs are chosen to ref there? Take Herb Dean for example- with all the MMA refs out there if the UFC truly has no say then why is it you're almost guaranteed to see him working in other states too?

Or Dan Miragliotta for that matter.

Or any other one.

This looks like a job for "BIG" John Mccarthy!

Dana needs to give him the $$$ and let the big man do his job!

i think it's because many of them are licensed in several states (or countries) for that matter, and probably apply for licenses ahead of time knowing where the UFC is going. and maybe the reason we even know these guys is because they are considered the best at what they do, that's why no matter what state the UFC is in, that athletic commission will still choose them.

The UFC must have some influence, consider that the best in the business is back on the job and hasn't found his way into the UFC octogon again.

Big John needs to be brought back for this fight. Don't let Dan ruin this one.
