At UFC 74, Babalu Faced David Heath...
At the Weigh-ins, they had a heated face off and Heath said to Babalu, "Your Going down, Mother(expletive). Lots of bad blood between them.
During the fight, Babalu had heath completely battered with the canvas covered in his blood before he locked in a beautiful anaconda choke and rolled, forcing Heath to Tap....
But Babalu would NOT let go. Mazzagatti had to literally pry Babalu off from Heath. It took a good 3-4 seconds for Mazzagatti to get Babalu off from Heath, resulting in Heath being choked unconscious.
Babalu clebrated intensly, amoungst loud booing from the crowd. In the post fight interview, Babalu said he did it on purpose, He needed to teach Heath some respect, and that Heath "Deserved that (expletive)."
Babalu was consequently fined for his win bonus and dropped from the ufc. It was one of the most classless, malicious acts I've seen in the UFC....
Now, for anyone who wants to discuss the supposed "brutal, classless" act of Palhares and the one slow-motion second that it took to seperate him from Drwal once Rousimar realized the fight was over, go right ahead...
Thoughts?

Pretty sure the thread starter was being sarcastic, and saying that you can't compare the two.
I agree it's apples to oranges. But I agree that major injuries don't occur from guys holding chokes for a second longer or so. If a guy holds a limb hold for too long a guy could be out for months.

Guys you can get brain damage and even death from a correctly applied blood choke. I am a blatant Babalu nuthugger and even I know what he did was worse than what Palhares did. However I think the point should be made that the fighters should be able to have the ability to let go when getting tapped on. The problem is that if the ref doesn't catch it then they could continue a match already won. This is a perfect example of why instant replay should be permitted.....or at least leave the decision open ended until further review, then it could be a NC or a very well decided finish. Lastly I think that holding on to a submission longer than what is correct should come with a punishment, the commisions need to get on the same page concerning this and some other things as well.

A choke that is applied perfectly can kill someone. Its nothing to be fooled with. It isnt a matter of injury, its a matter of life or death.
Cutting off blood to the brain with a strong choke for too long can result in a dead fighter and an MMA organization going under...

Uh, yeah, I know that, buddy. That's the exact point I was making: What babalu did was much worse. This thread was a sarcastic way of telling people to back off from Rousimar.
and who is Paul Harris?
OOOOOH, WAIT! PALHARES! i get it
