Shane Carwin thinks so. He commented on Miragliotta's sometimes quick break-ups and the end of the fight to Fox Sports afterwards: "I was confident in the game plan my coaches crafted. I would never call getting in the cage with Mir "easy" and I trained for the war I was expecting. I felt I was busy and I knew I was just going to try to pin him again so (the referee break) did not affect me too much. It was really weird as Dan was quick to break up the action but he seemed to let Frank get punched longer than necessary. Maybe he is just a big Mir fan."

What's up with this guy? All night he was standing up and separating fighters when they were clearly pressing action. I don't like them, but I can kinda understand the restarts when there is no action. But, when a guy is on top or pressing a guy against the cage and landing clean punches the whole time, or setting up a submission it's just dumb. I know it won't change anything, but that's my two cents.

HOW WOULD MIRGLIOTTA "BE A MIR FAN"? By breaking up the fighters when they were wrestling against the cage Mirgliotta was actually helping Carwin. Mir has a far better chance against Carwin if he actually has hold of him. Once they restarted back in the "boxing realm" Mir was in danger of Carwin's war hammers. Mirgliotta also let Mir get hit a few extra times at the end of the fight as well. I am not sure how on Earth anyone can think Mirgliotta favored Mir in that fight...it looked to me like the exact opposite.

i disagree completely. mirs best chance was to win a technical boxing match, not get dirty boxed from the clinch by a wrestler

Dan Miragliotta is the absolute worst ref in the history of the UFC. I've stated it since his first match and I will continue to do so. Keep the petition to relieve him of his duties as ref alive!!

Yeah I used to back DAn a lot. Seeing as how hard of a job those refs have...seriously. All good ref get caught out of position to "STOP" the fight evry once in a while. But last night was bad. I thought he did well in the Mir fight. He was giving Frank every opportunity to come back. It was a "TITLE" fight!?!? Nto to make excuses but ......WAR Rosenthal, Dean and Lavinge. Those are the top three guys in the world at reffing an MMA fight!

i think being a ref is one of those jobs were no matter what people are gonna be unhappy with the way you did your job. some are definetly better and mirgliotta is definitly not the top ref but he did ok. he didnt piss me off to many times

I know a lot of people hate to see clinch separations, and ground stand-ups, but I actually thought they were good calls for the most part. You have to remember, this is supposed to be entertainment--and people pay a lot of money to view these events. A battle of pummeling for overhooks and underhooks against the cage for five minutes isn't that exciting. Let them work, but after a minute or so battling over the same position, I think that's a stalemate.

Obviously though, the late stoppage with Mir was absolutely insane. It seemed like Dan just wasn't going to stop this one until Mir's lights went out.

Dan can't be accused of bias...

He's equally horrible at his job all of the time.

I dunno if Miragliotta is a Mir fan, but I guarentee that Steve Mazzagatti is a big Miragliotta Fan.

It's time for Dana White to start directing some of the harsh words he always has for Mazzagatti towards Dan Miragliotta.

idk exactly how to say this, but i believe that sometimes they let the more senior (not age) and experienced fighters hang around a lil longer. its almost like when someone is handling a baby, untile they learn that they aren't gonna break they handle them gentle. I believe a ref with stop a fight earlier for a fighter who hasn't proved they can handle the pounding before tko. its isnt right but i understand it. not to mention. if a ref pulls someone off a top 5 fighter even slightly early, they get critisized for that too.
better to let the carwin prove he beat mir then to be able to call the win an early stoppage
