Rory Markham will take home $1,000 less than he planned.
Nick Lembo of the New Jersey State Athletic Control Board today confirmed with MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) via email that Markham was issued the $1,000 fine for missing weight during Friday's official UFC 111 weigh-ins at the Prudential Center in Newark, N.J.
Markham, who fights Nate Diaz tonight in a Spike TV-televised preliminary-card bout, weighed 177 pounds, which was six pounds over the 171-pound limit for welterweight fights.
The $1,000 represents 12.5 percent of Markham's purse ($8,000) and has been awarded to Diaz. Markham's potential win bonus – $8,000 – will not be affected...

How do guys not make weight I don't get it, if you can't make weight fight at another weight class. I was already hoping Diaz submitted Markham and still think he will. He's probably drained if he couldn't even make it.

He probly isnt drained actually, he would have been if he had cut the extra 6 pounds he owed. now he will be much fresher than if he were to be forced to cut that extra weight like a professional. i still think Diaz will Sub him, but now Markham is even bigger and fresher than he should have been.

missing weight by 6 pounds is totally inexcusable. That's just ridiculous. To me that says "I didn't even bother to try to make weight"

Well not cutting the weight didnt work for Markham. Diaz closed him out early!!. Diaz looked great @ 170 but in a post fight interview with Ariel Helwani, Diaz said he was probably going back to 155???? Who knows. I like Nate and think he has a world of potential and will be fighting for a title soon. Whether its at LW or WW!!
