Brandon Vera will undergo facial surgery on Thursday evening to correct a dislocated cheekbone incurred in his first-round defeat to Jon Jones at UFC on Versus 1 last Sunday, said his manager Matt Stansell.

I hope this crazy incident will put a fire in vera that restores him or maybe even propels him to beyond where he was earlier in his career.

The time period doesn't really matter does it, when you get tko'd you have a mandatory 6 month lay off from physical contact right? So it would be the same amount of time if he didn't have to have surgery. Or am I wrong on this? Which I could be.

Most of the time the initial suspension is revised, I'm pretty sure. A fighter might get a suspension of a certain length right after the fight but they can go into a doctor and get cleared before it's up if they're healthy, which is usually the case.

I think its going to make him even more cautious, he'll lose his next fight, (unless he's given a can) and he'll be headed to strikeforce

You could be right. He was talking about how he worried about the take down too much and he was going to fight from his back like he had in the past...and look what happened. But he his a fighter and a very good one at that Jon Jones is the future so I'm not ready to send him to SF just yet.
