HOLLYWOOD, Calif. – DREAM lightweight champion Shinya Aoki widely is considered a torchbearer for MMA in Japan. And he's very protective of its landscape, particularly when it comes to the interests of stateside promoters.

UFC president Dana White repeatedly has said he's interested in returning to Japan for the first time since Zuffa, LLC purchased the promotion in 2001. But he blames "dirty, sneaky, bad guys" from keeping the promotion out of the country.

Does he get to wear his Robin Hood pants? Jk. But I think he'd do well, just not beat BJ.

And I also think that what he says has some merit. The UFC will have to change their marketing strategies for japan. None the less, it's a huge company and they know what they're doing so they'll make the right moves.

I think the the UFC is eventually going to be huge world wide.

I say Shinya Aoki would never succeed in the UFC.
Maybe the UFC "won't succeed in Japan" because the UFC refuses to contract Giants, Bob Sapp and Masked Wrestlers.
Nice try Shinya.

However, I would really like to see him try and prove me wrong

Aoki's right. The UFC would not do well in Japan, where MMA has lost a lot of popularity and the casual audience would recognize few Japanese MMA stalwarts in the UFC's roster.

I would love to see Aoki fight in America, but DREAM seems to have a stranglehold on him.

BS. You have Takanori Gomi now, if this fight with Florian was in Japan it'd be huge. Not to mention japan has never forgot about Cro Cop, the Nog brothers, Rampage, and even anderson silva. With the right fights, UFC could easily be successful IMO.

I think Aoki likes being a big fish in a small pond right now.
Japan was #1 but not anymore no matter how much anyone preaches.
