I had Wash winning in one bracket but had marq winning two more in another.
Georgetown probably screwed me in all my brackets.
BUT I do like the upsets even though I might not have picked them.

Ah, I was hoping this thread was for the NCAA Wrestling tournament! But I watch Basketball too.
Amazing opening day for the NCAA tournament - I guess here are a few of my thoughts for this year.
- I've been watching Northern Iowa all year and I have to say that these guys are grinders that play a tough man to man defense and they can hit their free throws. These group of guys are going to be a handful, even for a top dog Kansas.
- Wisconsin is another team I really like, they are decent offensively, they do not turn the ball over, and are an absolute force defensively, especially against perimeter teams. A potential future matchup against Wisconsin vs. Temple could happen if Temple and Wisconsin win their matchups tomorrow... Wisconsin vs Temple has 53-51type of score all over it - definitely should be fun.
- Having said that Vanderbilt - a team I liked because they had a solid PG, solid interior - a team that rebounds efficiently and a team that shoots free throws very well loses to a team because........ they got out-rebounded and could not sink in their shots from the free throw line???......
- I had a feeling that Georgetowns depth was going to hurt them, but I didnt think they were going to have a problem against Ohio even though Ohio has generally been a team that dribble penetrates and catches fouls and gets to the line fairly well (something Georgetown couldnt afford to do due to their lack of depth) or they kick it out for the 3-ball which they are fairly dependent on. Great job Ohio!
- Man I wish St. Mary's was the #10 in the West bracket because I think they could have given Kansas St a good run. I think Villanova even though they have been streaky as of late; they will keep Samhan on the bench and with St Mary's lack of depth (they play 6 deep), they wont be able to survive against Nova.
- Wake Forest showed its grit in a great game against Texas. I think a lot of people have been a little too quick to write off the ACC this year.
Thoughts on tomorrow's matchups:
Im anxious for the Xavier / Minnesota matchup, Xavier IMO is the better team, but Minnesota can light it up from the perimeter.
Cornell vs. Temple... high-octane offense vs. shut-down defense, this should be fun.
Im pulling for a Cal upset against Louisville (even though Cal is the 8 and Louiville the 9), I think Duke stands a far better chance against Cal than it does Louisville (Duke fan of course).
As for NCAA Wrestling "March Madness" - a lot of upsets have occurred too! To try and tie this into an MMA related post (because I could go on and on and on and on about what happened.... heh)
- Maxwell Askren (brother of Ben Askren) #6 ranked in the 184 division has looked strong today and advanced to the quarterfinals.
- Jared Rosholt (brother of Jake Rosholt) #2 ranked in the 285 division has also made it to the quarterfinals.

I took Murray St over Vandy in all of my brackets because of a stat they showed on ESPN.
Among the teams over the last half dozen years that have shot over 50% from the field and held opponents under 40% on the year, it was basically all Final Four, Elite 8, or Sweet 16 teams.
Granted Murray State played a lower level of competition than the teams in previous years but still, that's hard to accomplish over an entire year.
Unfortunately they're running into the team with the longest current winning streak (?), Butler. Could be the game of the 2nd round.

Interesting stat.
As much as I liked Vanderbilt to win I knew that Murray St. was a team that was in every game (win or lose) this entire year - and like you said, the competition might not have been great but that consistency definitely stands for a lot.
But man, if you would have told me that Easley and Aska from Murray St. would have combined for 8 points 4 rebounds and 9 fouls and still defeated Vanderbilt... I would not have believed anybody - even if Vanderbilt shot 59% from the FT line.
I think a lot of that consistency Murray State had throughout the year consisted of a little thing called hustle, because thats exactly what they did to Vanderbilt and of course that goes far in the tournament.
As for the Murray State Butler matchup... I agree it should be fun to watch. Butler is a sharp team that can force turnovers, get to the foul line and make their shots. They usually do a good job at being disciplined on defense because they dont really commit too many fouls... but they can get sloppy offensively at times. I think if Aska can be more productive in this game (and I think he will, Butler's interior is not as good as Vanderbilts) then I think Murray State will win the game (albiet a very close and exciting game).
As much as I enjoyed filling out brackets, i've stopped filling them out years ago hehe.

Exciting second day action as well.
- Xavier played great defense against Minnesota. Xavier didnt have the best shooting day, but they played lock down defense and avoided turning the ball over. Im almost positive that Pitt/Xavier game will go down to the wire.
- Duke looked solid today, and I think will be able to get past Cal, although they were lighting it up against Louisville.
- Wisconsin eeked out a close one against Wofford, but im not too worried, they generally do not score too many points - although Cornell played GREAT today against Temple.
- It only gets more exciting here on out, so many matchups I am looking forward to here on out.
Update on the wrestling "March Madness":
- 149lb division finals pits Brent Metcalf vs. Lance Palmer (matchup with a lot of interest within the wrestling community)
- Max Askren (Ben Askren's brother) is in the finals in the 184lb division against #1 seed Kirk Smith
- 197lb Jake Varner (no relation) is an absolute beast (2 x NCAA 184lb runner up, last years 197lb champ) is going to be in the finals.
- Jake Rosholts brother Jared is in the finals in the heavyweights and is pitted against the #1 seed Derek Zabriskie

St. Marys could screw over one of my brackets where I had Nova winning the tourney. Would be cool to see St. Marys pull off the upset though.

Im surprised at NOVA's play, or at least St. Mary's guardplay.. I also figured Samhan would have been in foul trouble - but he only has 2 with 2 min left to play.
