I cancelled the cable a while back (you'd be suprised how much I don't miss it actually). Anyhoo, I find myself streaming instant view shows and movies off Netflix through the ol' xbox360. The other day I started watching season 1 of Rescue Me. Damnit this show is great. It was a little hit or miss for the first few episodes with Dennis Leary's character talking to ghosts and whatnot. But since then I've become completely hooked. I finished the first season last night (streamed the last episode from the office cause I couldn't stay away).

I can't imagine how horrible it must have been to try and endure a sensored version of this show on TV. But I must say, it's glorious on DVD.

The only problem is I was looking around and it sounds like they're going to come back for seasons 7&8... Damn near enough to make me reconsider this whole cable subscription ya know.

Just wanted to throw that out there.

My wife and I love the show too. Someone posted on the FX website for the show that it will return on June 13th.

This is hilarious, and I'll tell you why-

I'm reading this as I'm streaming Episode 2 of Season 1 Rescue Me on my Xbox 360 because I cancelled my cable subscription a couple months ago.

Haha no real opinion on the show yet but I thought it was hilarious to read this right now of all times

I agree, it's a great show. The long breaks between seasons have been a drag, but if you're just getting into it now you won't have that problem.

Also, I don't think the show was censored when it was broadcast. I haven't seen the DVD version, so I can't compare, but FX has always produced shows for grownups (if they were films, they'd be rated R). The Shield, Damages, Nip/Tuck, Sons of Anarchy, It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, etc.

I currently don't have cable either but have downloaded a couple of FX shows (namely The League) from iTunes, with The League the censoring of language was minimal. They do get TV-MA ratings and since they're on cable and usually at 10 PM ET or later they have a bit more leeway with the language and violence.
As for Rescue Me, the upcoming 6th season, scheduled to premiere in June, will be the final season. They're going to split it up into 2 halves (9-10 episodes this year, the rest next year) with the series finale likely coming on...and this is slightly freaky...September 11, 2011.

Oh, trust me... There's no way they didn't sensor this show on FX. I know you can get away with quite a bit on cable these days but there's no way they let all this language through. I'm pretty certain you can't even say a$$hole on TV. (maybe I'm wrong on that.) You can't even count the number of times that word is dropped. Not to mention all the homophobic slang used. There's bound to be some sugar-coating for the TV audience.

Either way, this show is damn fine. I tried to stream The Shield too. All netflix has is seasons 6-7. I didn't really care for the show. But then again I haven't really found a cop show that I can really get into anyway.

There isn't. They say a**hole and fag and so on. FX isn't a broadcast network, it's a pay-cable channel, so they're not necessarily bound by the same rules. They're required to post warnings at the beginning of every episode, and at every commercial break, which they do. "This show is intended for mature audiences; parental discretion is advised."

Heh. I'm a sucker for cop shows, for some reason. I've watched a million of 'em over the years.

So we've moved a bit beyond George Carlin's 7 words you can't say then I take it. Cool. Shows how much I watched TV to being with. Probably better I cancelled the cable in the first place.

i watch some of the other FX shows(its always sunny, archer, and the league) but i havent checked this one out yet even though i have friends that have been yelling at me to watch it for awhile now. FX does what comedy central does with south park among others and just pays any fines handed down by the FCC, so they cant put just about anything they want on there with only a few exceptions.

FX has the best series for regular cable by far. The Shield was amazing start to finish although there was a slight lag in the 6th season. Sons of Anarchy is good, Sunny is good, and so far Rescue Me seems good.

And yes, they do air the words on regular cable. It's awesome.

My understanding is cable isn't regulated by the FCC, or at the very least not as strictly. About the only thing off-limits for basic cable is adult movies.

maybe its not the fcc thats handing down fines, but i know someone is because we had an article in the paper here about a casino here that has vegas style games even though they havent been made legal and they just pay the fines just like many other businesses that break certain regulations and FX came up in the article. so i might have been off base about the fcc being the one handing down fines, but they are paying them according to what i read.

This is my understanding as well. The reason most of those shows get censored is to prevent losing sponsors.

Oh, and the casting director for "Rescue Me" has great taste in women.
