The ratings are out for Saturday's WEC 47 event, and the numbers are not good. Only 373,000 viewers tuned in, down 42% from WEC 46 (which, it should be noted, had the promotion's top draw-Urijah Faber) and only drawing more than WEC 45. A big reason could be the ongoing DirecTV-Versus dispute which keeps Versus out of 18 million households.

Yep. So what's the best solution? Let's make people pay for it!
Seriously...I was all ready to pay the $4.99 to stream it only to find out 15 minutes beforehand that it was only available to stream live OUTSIDE of the US. US Residents could stream it 2 days later for the same fee.

WEC has the potential to be an amazing production. Unfortunately they're letting some people who don't know what they're doing market their fighters. Those people are doing a horrible job of it and should absolutely either be fired or forced to change their strategy.
Of course, that's just my opinion. I love the WEC personally and feel like they always put on amazing shows, but if I'm the casual fan I could care less about the WEC because I have no idea who is who and what's what in every division.
WEC is too busy blindly putting all of their faith into a couple fighters instead of just showcasing the fact that they have fast paced and exciting divisions full of talented fighters no matter who is fighting. To the casual fan all they are is Urijah Faber and Miguel Torres.

I think most people expected the card to be a predictable setup for Torres/Bowles 2. Instead the bantamweight division was shaken up violently. Doesn't look good for the PPV, especially if Strikeforce moves to that date.

Yup, some outstanding finishes last week. I'm only gonna say this once; thank god I have Comcast!

'Tis a shame since WEC 47 was an AWESOME event - that Perris inside head kick knockout was insane, not to mention the event named a new champion and featured a ton of finishes... people just don't know what they are missing.
I really think WEC would be better served to split completely from UFC as it would force them to compete more seriously without having 'big brother' there to lean on for promotional assistance. They are so overshadowed by the UFC it seems they are the forgotten son of Zuffa - I mean where the hell was the advertising for WEC 47? I can't recall seeing a single commercial promoting this event on any channel outside of VS, and even the online ad buy seemed really weak...
For the quality of action WEC puts on, the promotion has done a really poor job of promoting these guys which is a shame since they have so much talent on the roster...

I have this vague recollection that one of the WEC execs said something in an interview on sherdog.com that they like to use the numbers for total views over the first week of airings of an event. It had something to do with the fact that people don't always catch the events live.

It was a great card and some great fights. Why did UFC put programming on Spike the same night.
