When Dominick Cruz defeated Brian Bowles to win the WEC bantamweight title on Saturday night, the new champion didn't have long to celebrate before the questions started coming about who he might fight for his first title defense.

I don't agree that Cruz beat Bowles by TKO in a dominating performance. Bowles quit the fight, to be the best you have to beat the best, IMO Bowles should get a rematch with Cruz before anyone. Let Benavidez fight Jorgensen for the #1 contender.

I hope you're joking. Why wold you give Bowles a rematch after he got dominated like that? You yourself claim that he quit. If he quit why would he get another shot? Cruz dominated that fight from start to finish.
I think it should be Jorgenson first and then Benevides. Benevides lost to Cruz convincingly and hasn't been nearly as impressive overall as Jorgenson. Don't get me wrong, his win over Torres was impressive. But he's struggled in a lot of fights as well.

I think Eddie Winland should face Benavidez for a nymber 1 contenders match.
Meanwhile Scotty gets the shot.

Ok perhaps Bowles doesn't deserve a rematch but I still didn't see a dominating performance by Cruz, he did seem to dance around the cage good though. However I don't believe Jorgensen deserves a title shot, is the based on beating a guy with a pornstache? If that is the reason then no, that guy didn't deserve to be fighting IMO. Why not make someone fight Bowles? Very few people though Bowles could beat Torres, the same goes for Benavidez, it just amazes me how fast you go from champion to no one, in certain circles.

I think Bowles and Torres should fight again. Winner moves back into the title picture while the loser goes back to the scrubs.
Jorgensen is 5-2 and in my opinion it could easily have been 6-1 (the Banuelos fight was questionable). He beat Mizugaki in dominating fashion.
Benevides is 4-1 with his loss being a very convincing decision loss to the current champ. The fight just happened about 6months ago. And in my opinion he struggled with Jeff Curran.
And to the poster above, who is showtime supposed to be? Anthony Petis who fights at LW? Or Javier Vazquez who fights at FW?

Benavidez deserves the next shot...his only loss in the WEC is to Cruz by decision.
He's beaten Curran, Yahya and now Torres.
How do you justify putting Wineland ahead of Benavidez when his biggest win in the WEC is against Manny Tapia who got utterly destroyed by Torres, who just lost to Joe. Wineland also lost to Yahya, so Benavidez is easily ahead of him.
Not sure who suggested Showtime, but he is a 145er, not a bantam.
In conclusion, Benavidez should get the next shot. Maybe setup Jorgensen vs. Wineland for the one after that. Bowles and Torres both losing sets up a rematch there, but I'm not sure Zuffa wants to risk having Torres at 3 losses in a row.

Bowles did nothing in the fight and quit after round 2. Faber didn't quit after 2 rounds against Mike Brown in the exact same situation.

Alistair Overeem would say so.
On a more serious note, the 135lb division is oddly up in the air. I would give Jorgenson the shot. His style match-up with Cruz poses interesting challenges for both guys. Benavidez fought Cruz not too long ago. I would mark him as a contender and put him in an eliminator. Of course, injuries, illnesses and life happen so who knows what will actually happen until the cage door closes.

Benavidez just fought cruz...and it was a so so decision. A rematch would be all fine and dandy if the WEC was still on VS, and it was a Co-Main Event...but WEC is on PPV now. A rematch of a mediocre fight that happened 6 months ago will not sell a PPV...not as a main event, not as a co-mainevent!
Wineland is a former champion who has done well lately. He beat Roop (a well known fighter by casual fans, and also one who has proven his worth after his FOTN performance draw against Garcia), this provides interest in Wineland. Tapia (althought not that great) is also a name familar with fans...its easy to build Wineland up as a former champion making a comeback. Either way, he beats Benavidez thats a number one contender match, if Benavidez beats Wineland then it makes the casual fan willing to pay money to see a rematch with CRuz.
I'm just thinking from a buildup point of view, how they can sell the PPV. Video packages of a Wineland/Benavidez match would be epic with the two separte storylines (winlands as listed above) and Benavidez as losing to Cruz then beating Torres but still not getting a shot cuz he just lost to Cruz.
Meanhile fans are hyped for Jorgenson he's the flavor of the month after the KO...It would be easier to see a PPV (video package wise) of Cruz vs Jorgenson for the title, and Winland vs Benavidez for number one contenders.
Jorgenson is suppose to lose anyhow...and so is Wineland. This is just a way to make money off a rematch no current casual fan wants to see.
