Twitter can be a wonderful or damn annoying thing. In fact, it’s just like the internet; at times providing unfettered access to vitally important knowledge, or an opportunity for morons to drone on incessantly about sh-t they know nothing about. Like anyone gives an eff (hey wait a sec…). This time around Twitter has blessed us all, as both Quinton “Rampage” Jackson and Rashad Evans have confirmed the date of their upcoming bout, before the official word came down.

Rashad still living off his hype of KOing Chuck, didn't look to impressive against Thiago Silva. I think if Rampage is training, he'll have no issue KOing Rashad.

It's all up to Rashad, I think bad blood affects Rashad's game more than Rampage's. I think that will be the difference, that and the fact that this is a three round fight, so we can expect Rampage to push forward and take the fight to Rashad.

This bout has a lot of question marks. When it was originally supposed to happen after TUF I had Rashad for sure. Then he has his unimpressive performance against Thiago and I started thinking Rampage. But Rampage we'll be coming off of a big lay off and I don't know if the ring rust will affect him. Rampage also has made some comments that make me question his mentality coming into this fight. Either way, it should be an entertaining and closely contested fight. This is the kind of fight MMA fans live for.
Technically its very interesting as well. Both guys are good wrestlers. Rashad is probably a better offensive wrestler but Page has excellent take down defense and should be stronger. On the feet I think Rapmage is better on the inside while Rashad does better moving in and out. Rampage will have a power and chin advantage, but Rashad should have a speed advantage (at least in terms of movement.)
I see the fight playing out one of two ways.
1) Rashad moves around a lot and throws shots from the outside. He should be free to throw kicks because Rampage won't be looking to take him down. Because of that he should be able to open up more. He'll threaten with the occasional take down though I doubt any will be successful. He does have the power to knock rampage out or at least hurt him enough to get a tko, but I think his fear of extended engages will make it a UD win for Rashad.
2) Rampage defends takedowns, blocks most of Rashad's shots, and catches him in an exchange. Even if he doesn't knock him out (which he certainly will if he catches him cleanly) Rashad isn't the same fighter after he's been hurt. He's shown decent recovery but he's usually afraid to stand up after he gets hurt. So if Page can drop him Rashad will turn into a wrestler. If that happens Rampage can either work for a finish or take a UD.
Right now I'm leaning toward option 2 but I'm sure I'll change my mind multiple times by fight time.

Rampage didn't care about fighting Keith Jardine, and he got dropped and hurt bad in that fight. The only thing that kept him from loosing a decision is the fact that he was fighting the King of Sardines, and was able to drop him once in the second and at the final bell as well,to seal up a tidy (but close) UD.
Now he not only does not care about fighting Rashad Evans,he doesn't care about fighting PERIOD.He's fat,he's smoking, and he just wants to make bad movies and have lots of sex with hot Asian chicks. And I mean c'mon, who can blame the man?If I was making money the easy way (i.e.,not getting punched in the face),heck I wouldn't want to fight anymore either.
But that's a bad combo to carry into a fight with Rashad.Say what you will about the man,but Rashad is still a Top 5 LHW.And you don't go in against a Top 5 guy-heck,you don't go in against a Top 20 guy-half hearted. You don't go in there saying,"Well,I don't want to fight this guy,but since your gonna make me,oh well."No.No.No.You're going in there against a straight up killer. You go in there and zone out for half a second, and Rashad will send you home in an amber lamps.Doesn't matter if Thiago Silva rocked his world or Machida took his lunch money. You still have to show up and fight. And Quinton doesn't seem to want to do that.
If he shows up and looks like he did against Jardine-which,if he works his ass off,is the BEST he can hope to look after taking a year off and balloning up to 240ish-he will get outhustled and outworked and loose a decision. If he shows up and looks like he did against Shogun-just taking a fight because he HAS to-well,it will turn out about like that.Exsept Rashad will hurt him worse.A LOT worse.
Brian.
