It was, perhaps, to be expected.

After native son George Sotiropoulos (12-2 MMA, 5-0 UFC) turned in the fight of his life against the highly respected Joe Stevenson (31-11 MMA, 8-5 UFC) at UFC 110 in Sydney, Australia, the local media immediately wanted to know what the local boy's chances were for a shot at the title.

UFC president Dana White let the Australian media know to tap the brakes on that discussion, but he did say Sotiropoulos had definitely carved out a spot in the lightweight title picture with the one-sided unanimous decision win.

Yes, 5-0 in UFC, but only 1-0 against a quality UFC fighter. (other 4 wins were against fighters no longer in UFC, and Dent)

I agree with Dana 100% here. Title shot Premature, but a contender was born last night.

In knew he would win. 2 to 1 odd's too. Shame others in my parlay let me down. He's good to watch when he fights.

Please elaborate on how you knew he was going to win? What signs did he show? I honestly picked Joe Daddy to win, and Sotiropolous put on a show. He far exceeded any expectations I had of him and looked way better in all areas. He beat Joe Daddy everywhere. But what before that fight made you think he could beat someone of Joe Stevenson's caliber?

He's not ready for a title shot yet, but it's just a matter of time before BJ Penn needs a new opponent.
