Silva either plunks him quick,or it turns into another 25 minute snooze fest ala the Leities fight.

Should Maia get the takedown,he'll finish Anderson though.Anderson's defensive guard is just too crappy to deal with Maia.

Brian.

Man if Marquart can KO him Silva is gonna destroy him this fight won't last long enough to go to the ground and besides Maia is a lot tougher than leities

Well , I wouldn't mind seeing it , even if fails to live up to the hype, Maia always has a chance of winning against anybody.

What the ****!? Why would they pass up Chael Sonnen who is clearly on a hot streak for Demian Maia, who was KOed recently and had a lackluster unanimous decision win in his last fight!?

I'm sad because I really had Vitor picked to KO Anderson

I'm pretty sure Sonnen has a mandatory medical suspension until the middle of March. He'd never be ready for this fight.

What's everyone's problem with this? at least Demian has a chance to win this over Chael who would get out-grappled which is his only threat to Anderson and KO'd. Everyone seems to think Anderson is unbeatable but with Demians a black belt killer, just watch his highlights in grappling tournaments, his accolades don't lie and he translates it very well over guys stronger than he is. With Anderson's fallout with lesser submission artists I give Demian a decent chance of winning even with Anderson's improvement on the ground over the years. That doesn't mean I wont pick Anderson though.

I have to disagree with this statement. Maia may be a far better grappler than Silva, but Silva is a black belt in BJJ, and his guard is far from "crappy."

I love both of these guys, but this fight doesn't really interest me all that much. Maybe it will turn out to be much more exciting, and interesting than I could imagine, but I just don't see this as a very intriguing matchup.

I'm happy for Demian that he's getting a shot, but this isn't really the way I wanted to see him get his shot at Anderson. At the end of the day I still think Anderson will be the figher with his hand raised at the end of this one.

I'm not too happy about it. The fight might not end as fast as the Marquardt fight but it could be close. I'm with WheelchairBandit

At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in the playground is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no props, and may the mods have mercy on your soul.

Maia has way more heart and skill than Leites, dont see how it could possibly go the distance either way, Maia actually wants the belt.

I have to disagree with that statement, Maia is a better grappler than Silva but Silva is a BJJ black belt.

This is true, it will make Maia's job even harder but his black belt is just not as good as Maia's, he's made a career out of tapping black belts. I'm pretty sure Anderson was a brown belt when Chonan tapped him.

This is the only potential candidate. I would love to see Robbie Lawler back to challenge the Spider but the UFC's middleweight division is sooo weak.

Akiyama-would be great, don't understand why not.
Wanderlei- fight already lined up

Kendall Grove, Palhares, and Alan Belcher are great fighters but not ready to face Anderson yet.

This leaves Sonnen and Maia. Sonnens hurt, Maia's in. It may not be the best fight but anytime you get to watch the pound for pound best fighter in the world fight, it's a treat.

Silva has a great offensive guard-he's good at catching guys in subs. His defensive guard,on the other hand, sucks. He has a very hard time keeping guys from advancing position on him.Lutter,Marquardt, and Hendo (off the top of my head) passed his guard without too much trouble.

Brian.
