Marquardt was the favorite going in and widely considered the second ranked middleweight in the world, but Sonnen continued his winning streak by pulling the upset and gaining a title shot with his UFC 109 unanimous decision victory against the winner of Anderson Silva and Vitor Belfort that main events UFC 112 on April 10 in Abu Dhabi.

Chael was extremely imressive here and if he's going to try that wrestling with Anderson then we may have a new Middleweight champion!

That fight was awesome!!! Chael is a takedown-machine! And I love the GnP from inside the guard.....

I actually like Marquardt a lot, but even more I liked watching his weakness get dragged into the octagon's lights for every one to see.
Props to Chael.
Nate, you have some work to do, pal.

Best of luck to both these guys in the future.

Anderson fight much better off his back than Okami and Nate M. But that was a very impressive performance. Even GSP was Impressed I bet!!

Shocked is about all I can say about this one. I can't believe how dominant Sonnen was. I don't like him, but that was a hell of an impressive victory. If Anderson is next I'd say he earned it.

Sonnen's weakness is submissions. If he tries that with Anderson he will get subbed.

I was very surprised by this outcome. All credit to Sonnen for executing a strong wrestling game.

I think the issue with Marquardt is a lack of focus; he sometimes comes into matches with a bad gameplan and/or just doesn't use all of his tools. There's no reason he should've let Sonnen take him down that often.

Moving forward, I think Marquardt should fight someone like Alan Belcher. Both are big middleweights with emerging striking games.

As for Sonnen, I think if he fights Anderson it'll be a lot like the Henderson/Silva fight. It might take a round for Anderson to find his rhythm, so I see Sonnen working a couple takedowns and some decent ground control. Eventually though I see Anderson picking him apart on the feet and locking in a RNC.

i dont see how Sonnen deserves a title shot ok yea he beat the guy i consider the #1 contender, but he also lost to the #2.

lets look at MW div

Silva Champ
Vitor Title shot

contenders
Sonnen beat Nate, lost to Maia
Marquardt beat Maia lost to Sonnen
Maia beat Sonnen lost to Marquardt

i remember when LHW was a mess like this.

The fact is Sonnen beat the consensus number 1 contender in a dominant fashion and that guy just beat the number 2 guy in a dominant fashion. Vitor got a title shot without ever fighting in the division and that sucks for Nate, but Sonnen made the most of his opportunity and is very much capable of doing the same to Silva or Belfort. If Belfort wins we probably will end up with Sonnen being the most unlikely Champ ever.

Props to Chael. I knew the odds were much closer than all sites made it, but I thought Nate's training with GSP and Rashad, would help him to avoid too many takedowns. I think Chael presents some problems for Silva in the wrestling department, along with Vitor. Silva would do much better off his back than Nate did vs Chael.
If GSP WINS VS HARDY, THIS COULD LEAD TO GSP VS SPIDER SILVA...
and that will rock!

by the way, Chael mos def. deserves the shot with Spiderman Silva, but after that GSP could get Silva than Nate.
The fans want GSP/Silva
more than
Chael/Silva imo
