Dana White confirmed that Edgar will receive the next 155-pound title shot against champion BJ Penn. There had been talk of Gray Maynard facing Penn next, but in a video interview shot Tuesday in New York City, White said he didn't think Maynard was 100% ready to fight for the title just yet.

I would have rather seen him fight Gray Maynard (even though I don't like him). BJ is just going to maul Edgar, but it's not like Gray would do any better really.

Couple more fights and BJ will have effectively cleaned out the division. Frankie, Gray, and maybe Tyson and who's left? Joe Stevenson maybe? There isn't much left for BJ to accomplish at 155, and the remaining opponents don't stand much of a chance as long as BJ stays focused and in shape.

UFC should try and pick up some guys from dream and cultivate new contenders, they're hurting, BJ's just to good.

I think that this is bs. Maynard beat Edgar not to long ago, and hasnt dropped a fight since. I dont think that its right that Frankie jumped him in line for a shot.

Edgar beat a former title challenger,a former champion, and had an exciting finish in his fights since the loss to Maynard.Maynard,on the other hand, has plodded along with rather dull decisions over mid-tier (but good) competition. He got leap frogged, that's just all there is to it.He had his chance to shine against Diaz, and once again had a rather dull fight that went to the cards. That doesn't make the company brass real egar to throw you in to a title fight.

Brian.

I think that BJ will get the sub fairly quick in this one.

I think Frankie has a much better shot than Gray at taking the belt. Not that either has much of a shot really.

Frankie has faster hands and much cleaner boxing. I think Gray would get mauled standing while Frankie stands a chance. Frankie probably has just as good of a shot as Maynard at getting a takedown (which is just above 0%). So I like this fight a lot more than Maynard vs. Penn.

bj already kicked the crap outta stevenson. that's how he got the belt in the first place.

I completely agree, but i do think they could hype the maynard vs penn fight a little better. Im not wild about either fight, but at least if maynard got the shot they could use the master vs apprentice angle since maynard was BJs first pick on season 5.

I realize that. It's been quite awhile since that happened, and Stevenson has been on a pretty good run lately. I was suggesting maybe a rematch was in order. Like I said there isn't much left for BJ at 155.
