As the hours tick away, Urijah Faber and Raphael Assuncao now know that they are not only headed for a tough fight against each other on Sunday night in Sacramento, Calif., but also a fight that will likely determine the next contender to WEC featherweight champion Jose Aldo.

“We’ve definitely had that discussion,” said WEC general manager Reed Harris on Tuesday. “Ultimately Sean Shelby, our matchmaker, will make that decision, and we always like to wait until after the fight. But I’ll be honest with you guys, we’ve had that discussion over the last week.”

Would love to see Aldo/Faber. I think Aldo would crush Assuncao so i'm hoping Faber takes care of business.

What you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in the playground is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no props, and may the mods have mercy on your soul.

This is good!

For such a thin division we still get some very even interesting matches.

This is only because the div is thin, 3 years and it'll be stocked up full of competition.

I def think Faber should get another win before being handed the title shot again(granted he has to get by assuncao) but still...he got a quick rematch against brown...is the division really that thin that they can keep putting faber in the title shot...I agree it has the makings of a great fight but it just seems rushed.

It's because the div is thin and because Urijah is the WEC posterboy, he makes great fights and big $$$.

Either fighter presents an interesting match for Aldo, but a Faber/Aldo fight could either rocket Urjiah back to the top or increase the respect and fanbase of Aldo. Faber's combination of quickness and wrestling might cause more problems for Aldo. Both fighters are known for their quickness and it could come down to who can get their offense off first.
Assuncao would more likely end up being a showcase fight for Aldo. I think Assuncao has a lot of upside as a fighter, but he seems way too slow and predictable on the feet to cause Aldo problems at this point. But he does have a good chin and could probably hang with Aldo long enough to create a fun fight to watch.

Either way though, the edge goes to the champ.
