"He's No. 2 in the world and I was the lucky guy who won this fight, and they've been talking about bringing him to Strikeforce. Whether it's in his mind if I deserve it or not, I think I kind of earned it and I think I match up really well with the guy," he said about Aoki. "I think he's tough. I think I have the proper game plan for him. I've got the proper training partners for him, and I think he knows I'd be a tough match for him. I'd love to fight that guy.

Melendez should be able to keep it on the fett and score the ko.

Would be good fight but I see Aoki staying in Japan. The LWs there are smaller and easier to defeat for him. When Aoki fights larger competition (ala Sakarai) he gets bullied around and beaten.

Also no stretchy pants in USA MMA.

Totally agree with most people that Melendez gets the KO if that happens. I'd love to see Aoki fight some of the top 10 lightweights this year.

everyone forgets Melendez ducked Aoki just a few years ago. Melendez is NOT a top 10 LW, he has done nothing to prove otherwise. i do not think his fights with Thompson showed anything that would convince me to pick him against the upper tier LWs. if Aoki can get JZ, Alvarez, Uno and Nagata into a his world he can definitely get Melendez. Gilbert doesn't have the power nor the ability to keep Aoki from putting him in compromising positions.

If this fight happens it will prove to everyone that unified rules actually benefit Aoki, and he should take this round one sub. i hope all you blindly follow Melendez so i can make some serious money.

Aoki should be able to beat Melendez but guys like Penn,Sanchez,Maynard,Sherk,Henderson and Tibau are just too big and strong for him.I also think Diaz would put a hurting on him also but for different reasons.
In Asia the weight cutting is not as extreme as here so it would be in his best interest to stay there.

I really want to see this fight. I like Aoki a lot. Will he win? I dont' know. I think he will but that's what makes this fight so intriguing. Yes, Aoki lost against Sakarai but truthfully Sakarai is 15-20 pounds heavier than Shinya. I don't think that works against him. He does take punishment too but I watched Melendez go to Dream and lose and watched Aoki do some major damage in the same tournament...

you know how i feel about this fight. while i will admit that aoki has some real slick subs, im more then confident that gill would fight him real smart, stuff any shots, and avoid the clinch. and since aoki has very little to offer for stand up, i see Gill just sitting back and picking him apart. you have to understand Gill is really hard to take down. just take alook at his last fight with Ishdia. his stuffed all his shots and tko him in the third. he knows how to take the center of the cage, wait and counter very well. plus Gills never been knocked out or subbed while competing in MMA, he has way more heart then Aoki. you do remember Aoki crying and running out after he got ko'd? its just a bad match up for Aoki. Besides all that i would love to see Aoki get KTFO for the way he acted after his last fight!
