Hughes makes vague reference to Showtime’s interference in the process, and seems to believe that this will be Strikeforce’s undoing, sooner rather than later. Wrote Hughes:
Last week I was in California with Robbie, Pena, and Foster, hoping they would find a replacement so Robbie could fight. It didn’t happen and I guess I’m just spoiled being with the UFC. From what I understand, Showtime really likes to stick their nose in Strikeforce’s business and because of that I don’t think that Strikeforce will be around for much longer; but enough with that.

I'm left feeling empty. Robbie Lawler dosn't get a fight and all of a sudden there isn't going to be a show in April?

the melendez v thompson fight was great and smiths win was a big comeback but that fight was a snore until then. i thought the strikeforce card overall was pretty weak. i found the WEC show much more exciting.

but to stay on topic. Matt Hughes is a dolt. hes been spending too much time in the barn huffing gasoline.

Who knows, I really enjoy strikeforce and they seem to be growing, but Hughes just might be right if history is any predictor.

I just hope they put on enough shows to keep all of their fighters (not just Fedor) active and happy.

I don't really agree with him at this point but who knows maybe he knows something the rest of us don't.

i don't know how they can make alot less than a million a show, no pay per view, pay the fighters more than they are worth and still try to profit

it won't last, they won't be able to pay all their top fighters
some will leave eventually

lol @ the guy that thought the SF card was boring. It was sensational for a free fight (free if you have the internet or Showtime). The WEC was "okay" but after watching it, there wasn't any of the excitement that I had when I watched a little while ago when I got to see torres or Faber fighting.

You can always make money without a PPV. If their overhead is 400,000 and their intake is 1-2 million, it means that they are walking away with good money. It means COker may not make 100's of millions off of his business (see the Fertititi's) but he will make A LOT.

The UFC makes hundreds of millions but they are also focused on massive world expansion, and they buy up competition, and tons of fighter salaries....they carry more debt but also creat more revenue. overall, however, the money doesn't go to the talent---it goes to the owners. If Coker wants a model where a bit more goes to the talent what's the problem? What we are talking about is not the survival of a promotion but whether or not a guy makes millions or tens of millions.

Exactly!

It's easy to sign up loads of top free agents, but paying them all and keeping going is another matter.

Hughes has obviously seen things 'behind the scenes' which he doesn't like and i tend to agree with him.
